Autair at Leconfield

In May 1968, the Ministry of Defence had given approval for the Luton-based company Autair International to use Leconfield, for their twice-weekly Leconfield/Hull –Channel Islands as well as a London service which Autair hoped to increase at a later date... In this image, a H.P. Herald G-APWB is seen during a turnaround at Leconfield, June 1969 shortly after the services stranded.

💛

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. This is unacceptable.

The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025. Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel – 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

Anyone seen any of the displays? …

Nice looking ROMBAC in Bucharest last month. Asked our insta follower - and excellent poster of 1-11s - Hans if he can find more details. But google says like the BAC 1-11s the ROMBAC 1-11s are all out of service now. But as Ai is still a baby learner always worth looking deeper !! …

Alas all the Super 1-11s mostly scrapped. BUT with few examples we know around the world on display; inc complete airframe examples in UK at Duxford, Brooklands and Boscombe Down.

There’s a recent renovation of one ex Austral by the fantastic team Proyecto BAC INAC near Buenos Aires.

Several at Benin City Airport in Nigeria.

Northrop Grumman Facility (Baltimore, Maryland): The very last flying BAC 1-11 (N164W), which was retired in May 2019, was kept at their flight test facility at Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Airport.

Partial displays include at Gatwick and Shannon.

AND there’s even an ex Court Line G-AXMH Halcyon Sun front / flight deck section at Malta Aviation Museum (pic in comments), I know few of our group members have visited. It’s white and needs some TLC and a splash of court line sunshine! 🌞🎨👍

Might be few more out there ? …
