Honoring Courage and Sacrifice: World War II Soldier and Prisoner of War Returns Home
After more than eight decades, U.S. Army Technician 5th Grade William Paul "Billy" Keele has finally returned home to receive the honorable burial he deserves.

Keele enlisted in the Army Quartermaster Corps in September 1940 and was assigned to the Philippines during World War II. After U.S. forces surrendered to the Japanese, he endured the Bataan Death March and was imprisoned at the Cabanatuan POW Camp.

Keele died in captivity in 1942 and was buried in a common grave, alongside fellow service members who gave their lives for our country. Their remains were later recovered and transferred for identification, beginning a decades-long journey to bring him home.

Clinton National Airport was privileged to help honor and welcome this American hero home to Arkansas. Keele will be laid to rest Friday with full military honors in Fort Smith.

🚧 UNDER CONSTRUCTION: On the west side of the terminal, crews are working to build a new Central Utility Plant (CUP). The CUP is an "enabling project," necessary to clear the way for and power any future airport expansion. LIT is building this important infrastructure now to ensure planned terminal redevelopment will be possible.
