I have a very low hour, mint condition Powrachute Sky Rascal for sale. I'll add pics and post to the for sale page on Facebook as soon as I pull it out of the trailer! Just giving a quick heads up that I bought my students Sky Rascal and trailer and will have them for sale shortly.

I am going to add a few hours on it .... is my plan unless someone snatches it quick from me!

I will sell it as a bundle. Machine, trailer and training if needed!

We are never too good at flying to learn a valuable lesson!

I have been flying powered parachutes for 23 years now and have given instruction to students wanting to learn this hobby for 22 of those years! I try to always be a cautious pilot and instruct in such a manner to help my students become the best, safest pilots that they can be.

Yesterday while my student was doing the takeoff I failed to see the friction knot in the middle back lines of the chute. The chute came up nicely centered and clean(it wasn't wobbling side to side, but it definitely wasn't clean) and I gave the go ahead for takeoff. My student didn't check the chute for himself but I don't fault him for what we missed. I looked up and saw the chute stable and centered and gave him the green light for lift off. Upon getting air under our tires the AirWolf immediately did a hard right turn and I instructed my student to give it hard left input to which I heard "I am"!!! He was. I took control of the aircraft and looked up while trying to gain some control of this right turning, non climbing aircraft! We didn't get more than 7' off the ground at any time. We were fortunately heading away from the fuel island and the FBO and not toward it during this madness. When I looked up I saw the chutes condition and knew we needed to get safely down asap. We managed to keep the right wheel from dragging us into the sorghum field and landed just past that in a much smaller crop! I should have taken a picture of the friction knot for us but I was too intent on fixing the issue and getting out of that farmers field(after both of us had a chance to calm down)! We cleared all the lines again, laid them on top of the chute fabric so we didn't snag any lines on the crop and we took off.....and got some much needed air under us to cool us down.

Adrenaline is wild. We could have called abort immediately but in the tight right turn we would have rolled the aircraft causing damage to it and most likely to us. We did what we needed to in order to not kill us or the aircraft. My 23 years of flying helped us to get out of that and allow me to not be writing this from a hospital bed. I will admit that I got pretty shaken up. I have never in 23 years had to deal with such a thing on my aircraft. That's the point of sharing this with you....we are never too good to get a lesson like this and we have to do what we can to live through these moments. If we would have let up just a little bit on the throttle we would have crashed into that sorghum field as we had no lift beyond leaving the ground.

A chute that is centered and open is not necessarily ready to fly. You had better believe I will be checking that trailing edge really close on every flight again. An incident like this is a reality check for us. My student now wants to quit and sell his Sky Rascal and he is so very close to being ready to solo! I understand the emotion involved as I was there to live it with him!

What are your favorite sites to check weather and specifically the winds for flying powered parachutes?

I have a few but want to see what y’all use as I suspect there are a LOT of sites that I’m unaware of!
