Cold chain distribution for pharmaceuticals is won on documentation. The freight is the easy part.

Every transfer point, storage leg, and customs event has to be controlled and recorded. Validated packaging and qualified carriers keep 2 to 8°C and frozen shipments in range, continuous monitoring catches excursions early, and the records prove it when quality or an auditor asks.

Our latest article breaks down what a GDP-aligned pharmaceutical cold chain requires: temperature-controlled warehousing, validated packaging, real-time monitoring, and customs coordination that keeps regulated freight moving at the border.

MH Logistics is a licensed customs broker and cold chain 3PL with over 15 years handling regulated and temperature-sensitive freight. We operate temperature-controlled facilities in New Jersey, Georgia, California, and Florida, and coordinate every stage of the shipment from origin to final delivery.

Every cold chain has a moment where it is most likely to fail, and it is not the ocean leg.

It is the cold bridge: the transfer from the container or airport terminal into warehouse storage. A re**er sitting unpowered on a terminal stack, a chassis waiting on drayage, a genset that failed hours ago and nobody knows yet. Product leaves origin at spec and arrives at the warehouse already compromised.

MH Logistics runs that transition on a cross-dock and drayage protocol built to shorten it. Dedicated refrigerated chassis and genset-equipped trucks pull re**ers immediately on discharge. IoT telemetry reports internal temperature, humidity, shock, and location in real time, so a thermal variance triggers an alert to our control tower rather than surfacing as a claim weeks later.

From there, product moves into multi-zone temperature-controlled storage, segregated by temperature, humidity, and ethylene sensitivity, and managed on FEFO logic so nothing near its shelf-life threshold enters an outbound load.

Licensed customs broker and cold chain 3PL. Temperature-controlled facilities in New Jersey, Georgia, California, and Florida. 908-895-8605.

The clock starts the moment a flower is cut.

Most cut flowers sold in the US were grown abroad and flown in, which means the journey to a retail shelf runs through six stages: harvest and pre-cool, the international cold chain, customs clearance at the port of entry, cold storage, consolidation, and retail delivery. Every one of them is a handoff, and every handoff is a chance to lose freshness.

MH Logistics is not an airline and we don't operate the aircraft. We coordinate everything on the ground around that flight: customs brokerage, phytosanitary documentation, temperature-controlled warehousing, consolidation, and delivery into retail.

We wrote up the full sequence, farm to shelf, including what to look for when evaluating a 3PL for imported floral.

Perishable freight puts more on a logistics provider than most cargo does, because the clock starts before the shipment moves and doesn't stop until it's delivered.

A 3PL handling perishable goods is running four things at once. Temperature-controlled storage. Cold chain transport between facilities and final delivery. Inventory rotation, which for perishables means FEFO rather than simple FIFO, since the lot received first is rarely the lot that expires first. And fulfillment with packaging built for products that degrade.

Compliance sits underneath all of it. FDA sanitary transportation requirements, APHIS clearance on imported plants and cut flowers, and good distribution practices for pharmaceutical products.

Our guide covers what each of those should look like, and the questions worth asking when you're evaluating a provider.

Miami handles nearly 90% of the fresh-cut flowers imported into the United States. Most arrive from Colombia and Ecuador after flights of just three to four hours, and from there every stage runs on a clock: customs clearance, USDA inspection, cold storage, and outbound distribution.

That sequence is where floral freight is won or lost. Inspections at Miami run around the clock, but a delay at clearance ripples straight into storage schedules and delivery windows. When the broker, the warehouse, and the transportation are separate providers, that ripple has three chances to become a gap.

Our new article breaks down what a floral logistics partner should handle at every stage, and the questions worth asking before you sign with one.

Comparing logistics providers is harder than it looks. Transportation, warehousing, inventory management, fulfillment, freight brokerage, customs clearance, technology, returns, consulting, account management. When the service lists match, the decision has to come from somewhere else.

The differentiator is ex*****on, and you can test for it before you sign. Ask for their documented protocol when a refrigerated unit fails mid-transit. Ask how they validate warehouse temperature ranges, not which ranges they support. Ask whether they hold their own customs broker license or subcontract it. Ask what happens when a sensor flags a deviation at 2am.

A provider confident in their operation answers directly and shares the numbers. One without strong metrics speaks in generalities. With perishable cargo, every gap in their operation becomes a gap in yours.

One documentation error on a perishable shipment is not an inconvenience. It is a customs hold, a temperature excursion, a rejected load, and a damaged customer relationship, all from a single wrong HS code or missing certificate.

A licensed customs broker handles far more than most perishable shippers realize. Import entries, FDA Prior Notice, USDA APHIS coordination, AES export filings, phytosanitary certificates, CITES permits, and destination-country compliance across every trade lane you operate.

The compliance layer for perishable cargo is deeper than standard freight. The margin for error is smaller. And the cost of getting it wrong is measured in spoiled product, not paperwork fees.

Most perishable shippers searching for an urgent air freight solution spend all their energy finding the right aircraft.

The charter is only one piece.

Pre-cooling at origin. Cold storage during airport dwell. FDA Prior Notice four hours before landing. Temperature-controlled final mile. Spoilage documentation if a temperature excursion happens in transit. None of that comes with the aircraft, and that is exactly where the load is lost. Not at 35,000 feet.

That ground-side coordination is the part we own. With 15 years moving temperature-sensitive cargo for produce, dairy, pharmaceutical, and floral shippers, and warehouse operations across New Jersey, Georgia, California, and Florida, we manage everything the charter operator leaves behind.

We compared the leading charter providers and mapped what perishable shippers actually need to coordinate beyond the flight:

Most cold chain failures are not equipment failures. They are coordination failures.

The temperature excursion rarely happens at 60 mph on the interstate. It happens at the dock during a slow handoff. It happens during airport dwell time. It happens when pre-cooling gets skipped to save 20 minutes. It happens at customs when documentation isn't ready and the shipment sits.

For perishable shippers moving produce, dairy, floral, frozen food, and pharmaceuticals across international lanes, cold chain integrity is not a single decision. It is a system of small decisions executed correctly at every stage.

Full breakdown of all 10 steps in the article. Link in comments.

Pre-conditioning. Packaging. Loading discipline. Airflow. Equipment matching. Monitoring. Route coordination. Staff training. Regulatory compliance. Contingency planning. Every step either protects the load or creates a risk point.

The biggest misconception in cold chain sustainability is that running cleaner operations costs more.

It doesn't. Better insulation reduces refrigeration load. Route optimization cuts fuel costs. FEFO protocols reduce spoilage write-offs. Energy-efficient warehousing lowers utility bills. Almost every sustainability improvement in the cold chain has a direct operational cost benefit attached to it.

For perishable shippers facing pressure from retailers, CPG buyers, and internal ESG teams, that is the case worth making internally. Sustainability isn't a cost center. It's an efficiency program with emissions benefits.

We break down the full playbook in our latest article, nine practical moves perishable shippers are using to cut emissions and improve margins at the same time. Link in comments.

At MH Logistics, we've spent 15 years moving temperature-sensitive cargo across the perishable industries, from produce and floral to frozen food and pharmaceuticals, with temperature-controlled warehouses in New Jersey, Georgia, California, and Florida.
