The hotel currently ranked #9 in the world isn't on a beach. It's deep in the Yucatán jungle.

Chablé Yucatán, a restored 19th-century hacienda outside Mérida, holds the #9 spot on the World's 50 Best Hotels list and was just named the Best Hotel in North America for the third year in a row.

The claim to fame is the spa, built around a natural cenote, one of the underground pools the Maya considered sacred. It was the first spa in the world designed that way.

Every casita comes with its own private pool and jungle views. Dinner is its own event too, with menus shaped by Jorge Vallejo of Mexico City's famed Quintonil and a tequila library so deep it earned a Guinness World Record.

The trips I'd start planning now? Almost all of them are at least a year away. Here's what's on the drawing board.

Japan for cherry blossom season. A villa summer in Europe. Patagonia at peak trekking season. Marbella or Tangier for front-row seats to the next total solar eclipse. Tuscany for the milestone birthday, and Bora Bora for the anniversary.

The common thread is lead time. These are the trips I lock in 12 to 18 months ahead, because the best guides, rooms, and dates genuinely run out. Eclipse week most of all.

Most Portugal trips head straight for the Algarve. My favorite itineraries go almost everywhere else.

Lisbon: the natural first stop, with hilltop viewpoints, a world-class food scene, and the fairytale palaces of Sintra a short drive away.

The Alentejo: cork forests, sprawling w**e estates, whitewashed villages, and some of the darkest night skies in Europe. This is Portugal at its slowest and most soulful.

Comporta: rice paddies running into pine-backed Atlantic beaches, barely an hour from Lisbon. The understated coast Europeans have kept to themselves for years.

The Douro Valley: terraced vineyards stacked above the river, tastings at historic quintas, and lodges with valley views that stop conversation.

Madeira: dramatic cliff walks along centuries-old levada trails, a surprisingly serious dining scene in Funchal, and spring-like weather nearly every month of the year.

Wherever Portugal takes you, I'll make sure it goes past the obvious. Let's start planning.

Travel + Leisure readers just voted this the best resort in Europe, and I could not agree more.

Castiglion del Bosco, a Rosewood hotel on a 5,000-acre estate in Montalcino, took the top resort spot in Europe in this year's World's Best Awards with a near-perfect score. Add two Michelin stars at Ristorante Campo del Drago, three Michelin Keys, and an estate w**ery producing its own Brunello di Montalcino, and the case pretty much makes itself.

Golfers, save this part. The estate is home to the only private golf club in Italy, a Tom Weiskopf-designed 18-hole course that hotel guests can actually play. Expect Val d'Orcia views on every hole and almost no one else on the course.

Croatia keeps landing on client wish lists, and honestly, this footage explains it better than I can.

More than a thousand islands along the Adriatic. Medieval walled towns like Dubrovnik and Korčula. Waterfalls stacked through the national parks, and an entire peninsula, Istria, devoted to truffles and w**e. My favorite way to do it all is by sea, on a crewed yacht for the week, dropping anchor wherever looks best at lunchtime.

Advisor tip: June and September are the smart months, with warm swimming, open tables, and a fraction of the August crowds.

So what exactly am I doing at a luxury travel conference in the Bahamas… and how does it benefit you?

Last week I had the opportunity to attend ILTM North America in the Bahamas, an invitation-only luxury travel conference that brings together travel advisors, hotels, resorts, tourism partners, and travel professionals from around the world.

And while spending a few days at Baha Mar certainly isn’t a bad place to “work,” 😉 these conferences are so much more than visiting beautiful hotels.

I spent my days meeting one-on-one with hotel and destination partners, learning about new properties and experiences, reconnecting with partners I already work with, and building new relationships that I can bring back to my clients.

Why does that matter when you book a trip with me?

Because travel is so much more than finding a hotel online. It’s knowing who to call. It’s having a relationship with the people on property. It’s knowing which hotel, room category, destination, or experience is actually the right fit for you. And sometimes, it’s those relationships that can help turn a great trip into an exceptional one.
I came home with a LONG list of new ideas, destinations, hotels, and connections that I can’t wait to share with my clients.

My most-requested new property this year isn't in Europe or the Maldives. It's on a clifftop in Costa Rica.

Nekajui opened last year on a clifftop in Peninsula Papagayo, and it already holds two Michelin Keys. Some villas are reached by a wooden suspension bridge across a ravine. A funicular glides down through the trees to the beach club. The spa alone covers 27,000 square feet in the canopy, and dinner at Puna, from Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz, is reason enough to visit.

My favorite part: every stay comes with a personal host who handles everything over a simple text. Sunset table, surf lesson, a monkey sighting you want repeated tomorrow, one message.

Liberia's airport is about 40 minutes away, with nonstops from many U.S. cities, which makes this one of the easiest world-class resorts to reach from anywhere.

Clients always ask me when to visit Norway. It’s a trick question.

Summer: the midnight sun, fjords carved a mile deep, and the Lofoten Islands, where red fishing cabins face beaches that look borrowed from the Caribbean.

Winter: the northern lights, dog sledding through silent forests, and coastal sailings past snow-covered peaks that drop straight into the sea.

Either way, the new generation of design hotels and fjord-side lodges means you never trade comfort for scenery.

Two Norways, both worth the trip. The only hard part is choosing, and that’s a conversation I’d love to have.
