Blue Grass Airport ARFF Training Center Blue Grass Airport Regional ARFF Training Center provides education on aviation fire fighting. They are computer-controlled, and propane-fired.

With today's heightened emphasis on public safety and emergency response, high quality training for your team is paramount. Blue Grass Airport's Regional ARFF Training Center provides safe, quality, cost-efficient training and will strive to meet your team's training needs through our standard courses or through a custom designed curriculum. This $5 million facility consists of a state-of-the-art control building and utilizes two separate aircraft simulations to provide safe, live fire training scenarios for all emergency response professionals. The simulations—Fuel Spill Trainer (FST) and Specialized Aircraft Fire Trainer (SAFT)—are designed and built to replicate Boeing 737s. They simulate large-scale flammable liquid fires, engine fires, wheel and brake fires and aircraft interior fires with rollover and flashover.

We want to extend a big thanks to all of our volunteers, local emergency services, community partners and airport staff that all made yesterday’s emergency exercise possible! We want to extend a special thanks to our staff at the ARFF Training Center, who participated in parts of the exercise and assisted volunteers after the exercise was concluded. Because of their support and expertise, we were able to pull off a successful exercise that helped us practice our emergency preparedness skills.

If you participated in yesterday’s exercise, let us know in the comments!

Now that summer is in full swing, we wanted to look back at the classes from the first half of the year. In addition to our monthly ARFF 100 courses, we’ve had several recurrent trainings and even a special ARFF 100 course as part of State Fire School. Check out some of our awesome photos below of classes this year.

If you haven’t been able to take a class with the training center yet, we have an ARFF 100 course September 14-18. Register at https://www.bluegrassairport.com/training/ or reach out to [email protected] for more information.

This week, we've had the pleasure of being a part of this year's Kentucky State Fire Training School. Firefighters from across the state have joined us for an aircraft firefighting course, where they are learning practical, hands-on skills inside and outside the classroom. Thank you to the Kentucky Fire Commission for making the training center part of this year's State Fire School.

Comment below if you're attending this week's course (or if you're looking forward to taking one in the future.)

At the end of March, we hosted Lexington Fire Department recruits for an eight-hour class designed to introduce them to ARFF. This class is an important training opportunity for fire departments in areas surrounding airports, especially those responsible for responding to smaller general aviation airports.

If your department is interested in an ARFF training session, check out our website and reach out to us. We'd be happy to create a session tailored to your department's needs and FAA requirements.
