Geez, folks, it doesn’t seem to be getting much better on the roads yet. I 75 is still very very slow. Local news is reporting three hours to drive from Richmond to Lexington. It may be noon before any of us are able to get in today.

Wow, who would have thought we would have an ice delay on St. Patrick’s Day?!? We will be opening at least two hours late today due to very hazardous road conditions. I 75 has several problems right now so everyone just be patient and let the sunshine clear the roads a bit. We will see you all about 11 AM.

The ice on the trees is certainly beautiful the way the sunlight reflects off of it! Unfortunately, it’s not so nice to have ice on the roads! Many of the roads in Madison County (where I live) are improving, but there are still patches of ice, especially at intersections. The pictures I have seen of Fayette County roads show improvement, but there is still a lot of ice. While, we are still not able to get there, we are hopeful that it won’t be much longer. Please, if you have to go out, be careful, slow down, and leave plenty of room for stopping. Stay safe out there, folks! Len, Chad, and James

We had hopes, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to be open today after all. Apparently interstate entrance/exit ramps, intersections around town and entrances into the shopping center are still exceedingly dangerous to travel. Please stay in if you can, stay warm, and above all stay safe! Len, Chad, and James

Happy Wednesday, everyone! We don’t know if we’re going to be able to get in today or not so please call before you drive over to Woodhill. You can also continue to check here and we will update our plans as they evolve. Len, Chad, and James

UPDATE ON ROADS

The most encouraging news today is the sunshine and rising temperatures. Both are helping crews make progress on ice removal. Please note that roads with heavy tree cover or shaded areas will take longer to improve due to limited sunlight.

This weather event was primarily a significant ice storm, with snow on top of it. While crews pretreated roads before precipitation began, the type and volume of ice created extremely challenging conditions.

Over the past several days, temperatures were so low that salt was ineffective, so road treatment was limited. Even on roads that have been plowed, conditions may still be slick. Plow blades cannot scrape all the way to the pavement without causing damage; instead, they remove buildup so that once temperatures rise and sunlight reaches the surface, melting can begin.

Many secondary roads—and some priority routes—have not been treated in recent days. Crews are actively working today to plow and treat these areas. However, compacted ice is proving difficult to remove, and residents may not see immediate improvement on all roadways.

Roads are still pretty bad in many places, folks. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to being able to get back to work! Hopefully that will be soon! Len, Chad, and James

Looks like another snow day for us at the MailRoom tomorrow. This ice is a real pain and is making it impossible for us to get out of our neighborhoods. Hopefully neighborhood roads will be plowed, salted, and clear soon. I see on the news that the interstate is looking pretty good, but I’m sure it still has black ice. If you have to be out, please be careful! Stay in, stay warm, stay safe! Len, Chad, and James
