Over the years I’ve seen so many bucks showing up within an hour of sunset and then once you get that first October cold front they become day walkers. The next time we see temperatures in the 30’s, those mountain ghosts are going to start showing themselves during the daytime! 🇺🇸🦌

This has been the slowest October I have seen since 2022 in regard to buck movement. What amazes me is the amount of activity I’m seeing in bedding areas at night. Some bucks are not leaving the bedding areas hardly at all. When you think about it, it makes sense. Why leave when everything they need is there. Bucks are bulking up for the rut right now. The more they eat and the less they move, the more fat they put on for November. Nevertheless, I’m hoping they break out of this pattern much sooner than later! 🇺🇸🦌

It’s just about that time of the year where every buck within the area will start visiting community scrapes. Community scrapes might not always be the best place to take a mature buck, but there’s not a better place in the woods to inventory the bucks in your hunting areas. Some of the biggest bucks I’ve ever gotten on trail cam have shown up in the latter part of October on a community scrape! 🇺🇸🦌

This weekend, much of this part of the country is going to see the best cold front we’ve had so far this season. Bucks that haven’t daylighted on your cameras will suddenly appear during morning hours as well as the late afternoon period. You could even see a mature buck cruising mid-day. You will see bucks show up in places where they haven’t since last fall. The downside to a mid-October front is that sometimes it pushes back good movement in the Oct. 20-25 time period. Especially if it warms up again. Regardless, big bucks are going to drop this weekend. Best of luck everyone! 🇺🇸🦌

This white oak has already dropped every acorn it produced and there’s not one left on the ground underneath it. The activity obviously slowed down immediately once the feed was gone. Nevertheless, it’s still been interesting to see that some deer will come back hoping the tree dropped some more. This tells me not to give up on a spot like this once the acorns are gone. There’s still at least a few days left of deer returning and checking on it. 🇺🇸🦌
