A Full Circle Moment at the Kendall Tavern
The Kendall Tavern has seen many chapters of local history, but this past Saturday was a truly special one.
In the early days of Leominster, the Kendall Tavern served not only as a gathering place for travelers and townspeople, but also as the first home of Freemasonry in the area. Aurora Lodge was chartered on June 8, 1801, and its earliest meetings were held right here — in the tavern’s ballroom.
More than 220 years later, history came full circle.
This past Saturday, Freemasons returned to the Kendall Tavern and conducted a Fellow Craft (Second Degree) ceremony, bringing the traditions of early American Freemasonry back to the very room where they began locally. Seeing the Lodge once again active within these walls was both humbling and deeply meaningful.
It’s moments like these that remind us that old buildings aren’t just structures — they are witnesses to history, community, and continuity across generations.
I’m honored to be able to share this moment and these photos with you.
