The crew of Red Duke 7 is at the airport today taking FAA checkrides with Crossroads Aviation. The Red Duke call sign honors Dr. James “Red” Duke, the renowned trauma surgeon who founded the Level 1 trauma center and Life Flight program at Memorial Hermann in Houston. If you are old enough you may remember his “For Your Health” segments on television.

Good morning everyone,

This is a reminder that our EAA Chapter 1356 meeting will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at noon at the Leesville Municipal Airport (L39). Rain or shine ! Lunch will be provided. We will have a guest speaker as well. We would love to have a strong turnout from our chapter, so please plan to attend.

Inspections are complete on the new hangar complex and a certificate of occupancy has been issued. It includes seven individual T hangars with electric bifold doors and two equipment storage bays. All hangars are under lease and tenants are moving in aircraft.

Thank you to DOTD Aviation for the grant funding, Infrastructure Consulting and Engineering for design and project management services and Pat Williams Construction LLC.

Work has started on the project to extend the runway from 3800’ to 5600’. The estimated completion date is July 2026. The first phase is excavation and embankment north of the runway and there is no impact on normal operations. The next phase will involve dirt work closer to the end of the runway at which time the threshold will be displaced 800’ leaving 3000’ available for landing. Appropriate NOTAM has been issued.

Removed two dogs from the runway. Friendly but no collar. I have them at the terminal building waiting for animal control. Message if you recognize them.
