I just delivered COOKIE MATTERS recipe/preparation mats to Traditions in downtown Lee's Summit, MO. This is the first retailer to feature our recipe mats to customers. Thanks, Paula! The COOKIE MATTERS will make great holiday gifts - and wedding presents. Paula says they would be great as the centerpiece for a gift basket with the cookie ingredients and prep bowls, spoons, hot pads or other kitchen gadgets as accessories. I agree!

Hot off the production line: Cookie Matters available in 7 different recipe/preparation mats!

All-American Favorites: one side is Chocolate Chippers and the other side is Oatmeal Raisin.

Our product testers loved using the recipe mats with their beginner bakers - and their children loved making and eating the delicious cookies!

Just finished a hugely productive "Food & Feedback" focus group session with the Alpha Testers! This is a group of smart cookies! They offered very specific product improvement ideas as well as suggestions for marketing and distribution. Thanks to each of the Alpha Testers for your commitment of time and energy!

Planning a FOOD & FEEDBACK lunch meeting with the Alpha Testers on September 24th at Garozzo's Ristorante in Lee's Summit. This group will provide information to get the Cookie Matters recipe preparation mats ready for wholesale and retail distribution - just in time for the holidays!

So excited for the Focus Group of product testers to try out the Recipe Matters cookie mats! While the Focus Group is testing the cookie mats, we have holiday cookie mats for vanilla and gingerbread cut-out cookies in the design process. We'd like to have the holiday cookie mats available in select, locally-owned businesses in October.

It's what's for (my) breakfast: Maple-Bacon Cookies! I'm trying savory cookies (biscuits? crackers?) because not everyone likes sweet. This is a cookie that is both sweet and salty, so I thought it would be a step in the savory direction. It is amazingly good. Might be a candidate for a maple flavored icing - but we are enjoying them without that extra sweetness.

MAPLE-BACON COOKIES
* Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
* Measure the dry ingredients into prep bowls; set aside.
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (I made mine gluten free, with garbanzo bean flour plus 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cups brown sugar, packed firm
- 1/2 cup crumbled bacon
* Measure the moist ingredients into prep bowls; set aside.
- 1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter (or Crisco)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 cup milk
* In a large bowl, mix together: flour, soda, salt, cream of tartar, baking powder.
* In a larger bowl, mix together: butter, eggs, maple syrup, milk, brown sugar.
* Gradually stir the flour mixture into the bowl with the creamy ingredients. Add the crumbled bacon and carefully stir into the dough.
* Place rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheet, making four rows of three cookies.
* Bake at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges of the cookies are golden brown. (The bottoms may be darker brown; this is from the maple syrup, and does not spoil the taste.)
* This recipe makes approximately 6 dozen (72) cookies.

I just had to try another cookie recipe - this time coconut - because none of the cookies I've tested so far included coconut, and because who doesn't love a coconut cookie?

These are moist, chewy, and crisp at the same time. A good August treat.

COCONUT DROP COOKIES
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Measure the dry ingredients into prep bowls and set them on the recipe mat.
2 cups – all-purpose flour.
1 teaspoon – baking soda
1 teaspoon – salt
1 teaspoon – baking powder
1 teaspoon – cream of tartar
1 cup – granulated sugar
2 cups – flaked coconut
Measure the moist ingredients into prep bowls and set them on the recipe mat.
½ cup – coconut oil (or softened butter)
2 teaspoons – vanilla extract
1 teaspoon – coconut extract
2 – large eggs
In a large bowl, mix together:
✓ all-purpose flour
✓ baking soda
✓ salt
✓ baking powder
✓ cream of tartar
In a large bowl, mix together until creamy:
✓ coconut oil (or butter)
✓ granulated sugar
✓ vanilla
✓ coconut extract
✓ eggs
Gradually stir the flour mixture into the bowl with the creamy ingredients. Mix thoroughly. Add the flaked coconut and carefully stir into the dough.
Place rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheet, making four rows of three cookies.
Bake at 350° F for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges of the cookies are golden brown. Use a spatula to transfer the cookies to a cooling rack.

This recipe makes approximately 3 dozen (36) cookies.
