As we’ve settled in from coming home and heading back to work, we wanted to share the list below of notes we compiled during the trip.
1. Get the extra sewer hose. It’s worth it.
2. Daniel will teach our son to drive.
3. Get gas, even if you don’t need it. And use the bathroom while you’re at it.
4. Some of us are afraid of bridges, others are scared of mountains. Either way, we do it together.
5. Always check your route to make sure the GPS isn’t sending 53’ of length through a national park with switchback mountains.
6. When signs are on the side of a bottom of a hill warning about overheating, prepare for the worst.
7. There is never enough tape. Any size, any type, any shape. Never enough.
8. Snacks. Always pack snacks.
9. The back up camera saves more than just the camper, turns out it’s actually really good for your marriage.
10. The license plate game is a MUST. (For everyone wondering - we completed the license plate game in its entirety with 2:48 left of the trip!!)
11. Always double check that you booked full hook ups before planning to dump at the next stop.
12. Sand storms sound a LOT like water hitting the side of your camper. When you go outside to look, don’t open your mouth.
13. Any state highway that doesn’t end in “highway” usually means to brace for driving. For example: pass, throughway, path, tunnels etc.
14. When checking into a campground and they ask if you need water, they’re not asking about water bottles. They’re asking if your holding tank is full.
15. For less than 5 hours of driving, add one hour for pit stops, after 5 hours and less than 10 hours add 2 hours, and more than 10 hours is just too much.
16. Do not turn on the wipers as soon as a bird poops or a bug splats on your windshield.
17. Sign up for the gas station rewards program- it makes you feel a little bit better about how much you’re filling up.
