Effigy Mounds National Monument in eastern Iowa was established on this day, October 25th, in 1949. We recently visited Effigy Mounds National Monument.The park features ancient earth mounds built by Native Americans more than a thousand years ago, many of which are shaped like animals, such as bears and birds. It’s a beautiful place to hike, learn, and connect with early American history. We did a loop that took us past Little Bear Mound, Great Bear Mound, and Fire Point Mounds.
