It’s been a couple months since I last sent an update, so I wanted to share where SDM Transportation stands so far in 2026. To date, I’ve entered 173 reservations into the system this year. That number is down from both last year and the year before. With the economy the way it is, I understand that what I do is a discretionary expense for many travelers. If people find another way to use that money during their trip, that’s often the choice they make. This past week, while attending a work conference for Cottonwood, I was in Omaha for the 2026 Community Transit Association of America Expo. I had a great trip, learned a lot, and rolled over 72,000 miles on my Tesla between that trip to Omaha and a quick family-related trip to Colorado.
I say this often, and I truly feel it bears repeating: thank you to everyone who reads this. I’ve been blessed in my adult life to have found two of the best jobs a person like me could ever have: my full-time job, which I first started in 1995 working with individuals with disabilities, and my airport shuttle service, which I started in 2006. I had a conversation on the phone a couple months ago with someone who said they hoped I would be taking some “me” time. I explained that, thanks to all of you and my shuttle work, and thanks to my co-workers and the individuals I work with at my full-time job, working and driving really is my “me” time. I appreciate the trust each and every one of you has placed in me over the last 20 years, as well as the opportunity to be affiliated with the same full-time organization, on and off, for the last 31 years. I look forward to many more years in both roles.
When you receive your confirmation emails, please review them carefully, as they contain all the information you need about the pickup process to and from the airport. Please also check them for accuracy in case I’ve made a mistake. If you receive any flight change information related to your departure from or arrival into Kansas City, please let me know as soon as possible. Lately, airlines have been making many last-minute changes. I want us all to stay on the same page with flight information and timing, because pickups and drop-offs run much more efficiently when we all know exactly what’s going on.
In 2026, I will NOT be running shuttle service on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Please don’t use 3rd-party messenger programs to request a reservation. I seldom check messages on Facebook, Nextdoor, Yelp, and similar platforms, and I may not see them for several days or more. If you leave a message there, it may unfortunately be overlooked. For reservations, please always use my phone number and/or business email below. Please also note that I don’t make reservations by text, as there is too much information I need to collect and keep when booking a reservation.
Please always leave a voicemail if I can’t answer my phone, as I’m driving for other customers or working at my full-time day job. While I may see a list of missed calls, with all the spam and junk calls out there, I only return calls from people who leave a message about airport shuttle service. I also often text those people back with the basics and instructions for emailing their reservation details.
All shuttles are private car services and are not shared. SDM Transportation provides shuttle service in the early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and on some holidays. Advanced reservations are required with at least 24 hours’ notice, based on availability. Because I also work a full-time day job, I am not available for shuttles between 7:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Weekday shuttle departures must leave no later than 5:00am. In general, on weekday evenings, it is 5:30pm before I can get to the airport to pick someone up, or 4:45pm to pick someone up in Lawrence and take them to the airport. I also require that multiple people who are part of the same reservation be picked up and dropped off at the same location.
