I hope that everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July. I know that I had one of the best times of my life being able to visit family in Oklahoma over this last weekend. As summer continues on and the heat cranks up, so far, SDM Transportation has handled 229 reservations. I appreciate the support and faith that everyone has put into my and SDM Transportation for the last 20 years now. It’s hard to believe that I started SDM Transportation in September 2006. I’m currently on car #50, the 2023 Tesla Model Y which I’ve had for a year as of Aug. 6th, 2026 and now put 44,000 miles on.

When you receive your confirmation emails, please review them carefully, as they contain all the information you need about the pickup process to and from the airport. Please also check them for accuracy in case I’ve made a mistake. If you receive any flight change information related to your departure from or arrival into Kansas City, please let me know as soon as possible. Lately, airlines have been making many last-minute changes. I want us all to stay on the same page with flight information and timing, because pickups and drop-offs run much more efficiently when we all know exactly what’s going on.

In 2026, I will NOT be running shuttle service on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Please don’t use 3rd-party messenger programs to request a reservation. I seldom check messages on Facebook, Nextdoor, Yelp, and similar platforms, and I may not see them for several days or more. If you leave a message there, it may unfortunately be overlooked. For reservations, please always use my phone number and/or business email below. Please also note that I don’t make reservations by text, as there is too much information I need to collect and keep when booking a reservation.

Please always leave a voicemail if I can’t answer my phone, as I’m driving for other customers or working at my full-time day job. While I may see a list of missed calls, with all the spam and junk calls out there, I only return calls from people who leave a message about airport shuttle service. I also often text those people back with the basics and instructions for emailing their reservation details.

All shuttles are private car services and are not shared. SDM Transportation provides shuttle service in the early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and on some holidays. Advanced reservations are required with at least 24 hours’ notice, based on availability. Because I also work a full-time day job, I am not available for shuttles between 7:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Weekday shuttle departures must leave no later than 5:00am. In general, on weekday evenings, it is 5:30pm before I can get to the airport to pick someone up, or 4:45pm to pick someone up in Lawrence and take them to the airport. I also require that multiple people who are part of the same reservation be picked up and dropped off at the same location.

It’s been a couple months since I last sent an update, so I wanted to share where SDM Transportation stands so far in 2026. To date, I’ve entered 173 reservations into the system this year. That number is down from both last year and the year before. With the economy the way it is, I understand that what I do is a discretionary expense for many travelers. If people find another way to use that money during their trip, that’s often the choice they make. This past week, while attending a work conference for Cottonwood, I was in Omaha for the 2026 Community Transit Association of America Expo. I had a great trip, learned a lot, and rolled over 72,000 miles on my Tesla between that trip to Omaha and a quick family-related trip to Colorado.

I say this often, and I truly feel it bears repeating: thank you to everyone who reads this. I’ve been blessed in my adult life to have found two of the best jobs a person like me could ever have: my full-time job, which I first started in 1995 working with individuals with disabilities, and my airport shuttle service, which I started in 2006. I had a conversation on the phone a couple months ago with someone who said they hoped I would be taking some “me” time. I explained that, thanks to all of you and my shuttle work, and thanks to my co-workers and the individuals I work with at my full-time job, working and driving really is my “me” time. I appreciate the trust each and every one of you has placed in me over the last 20 years, as well as the opportunity to be affiliated with the same full-time organization, on and off, for the last 31 years. I look forward to many more years in both roles.

I hope everyone has enjoyed the weather the last few days in February. This is certainly unprecedented for us during the wintertime. I’m looking forward to the rain we’re supposed to get tomorrow. I hope that the rain doesn’t spoil anyone’s Valentines Day plans. So far, 2026 is off to a pretty good start. So far, I’ve entered 83 reservations into the system for this year. This morning, I rolled over 60,000 miles on my 2023 Tesla Model Y that I purchased in July 2025 with 35,000 miles on it at that time and I feel like it is the best car so far of the 50 that I have owned. However, I am in a loaner this morning as I had to take my car in for a new windshield and a tire rotation at Tesla, so they gave me a 2025 Model Y in the color I was trying to find in July and it’s definitely a slick vehicle. No I’m not moving on to #51, yet! 😊

I try to say this as often as possible to everyone in the newsletter but I feel like it merits repeating. I have been blessed in my adult life to have stumbled into two of the best jobs a person like me could ever have. Since I didn’t do anything during Christmas day and have been up so far Christmas night, I decided to work on the newsletter and also publish a new podcast that I’m going to start and see if it gets any traction. See below if you’re interested in that. Anyway, so far this year, SDM Transportation has handled 415 reservations in the system. Thank you so much to each and everyone of you who’s helped to make that possible. I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas and is looking forward to a Happy New Year !

Numbers for 2025 were a little lower than the previous year and I’m sure that is due to a lot of changes in our world with increased demand on your dollars, using a car service for your vacation dollars is an optional expense that you may choose to use in other ways on your trip. If and when you ever do need a ride to the airport, please remember it’s never too early to book a shuttle. Payments are never due until the day of travel and there’s never a cancellation fee. However, please remember that if you do pre-pay and then need a credit card refund, there will be a $25 surcharge imposed. Otherwise, a full credit will be held in the system until you’re ready to travel again.

As many of you may remember in late July, I transitioned to car #50, a 2023 Tesla Model Y. This is a smaller SUV. It’s easily capable of handling up to three passengers and at least 3 medium suitcases and two carry-ons or two large suitcases and two carry-ons. Please always mention when booking your reservation if you’re going to be traveling with odd sized luggage such as golf clubs, etc. This helps plan ahead of time if my service and vehicle are the right option and size for what your taking on the trip.

Typically, all shuttles are run in the evenings, overnights, early mornings, weekends and some holidays. However, it may be worth checking as occasionally I have a Friday available that I run shuttles (but only occasionally).

If you still haven’t wrapped up your holiday or New Year’s holiday Transportation, you can still reach out to check my availability. I will not be running on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. As many of my longtime followers know, I have been providing airport shuttle service to Lawrence in the surrounding communities for the last 20 years.
