Few places are connected to both the beginning and the end quite like Adam-ondi-Ahman.

Just off the trail at Tower Hill in northern Missouri sits a weathered stone known as Preachers Rock. According to tradition, the Prophet Joseph Smith stood here and taught that this sacred site would become a gathering place for the saints in the last days.

By the winter of 1845, the Saints in Nauvoo knew they would soon be driven from the city and forced to abandon the temple they had sacrificed four years to build. So they didn’t wait. As soon as it was ready, the temple opened, and before long it was running around the clock, day and night, as thousands hurried to receive the blessings they had given everything for.

Brigham Young had planned to leave on February 4, 1846. But the night before, as he prepared to go, he found a crowd still waiting at the temple doors so he stayed two more weeks to serve them.

By the time the Saints finally left, more than 6,000 had received their endowment.And then they walked away from it. West, into the unknown, trusting the Lord with everything they left behind. 💙
