🚨Mayor’s Safety Initiative🚨

Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño has taken the lead in addressing public safety concerns in Laredo through a series of coordinated actions aimed at prevention and awareness.

The effort has included leading a community town hall, collaborating with state leaders on potential legislation, and holding press conferences alongside Laredo Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez Jr. to address safety challenges and outline next steps.

City leadership has described the initiative as a coordinated push involving law enforcement, community partners, and policymakers — an approach officials say is one of the first of its kind in modern Laredo history focused on early intervention and community engagement.

‼️💙 MAYOR TREVIÑO SEEKS TO HONOR EVERY CITIZEN HERO OF THE ‘6/16 PLANE CRASH’ 💙‼️

Know of someone who helped?

Laredo, TX — In the aftermath of the June 16 plane crash that shocked the community, Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño is currently working to identify and recognize every citizen whose actions helped save lives during the emergency.

The Mayor recently released a statement honoring several individuals who have already been identified for their heroic actions. However, the Mayor says the effort is far from over, as many people who assisted during the tragedy may not have been captured on video or publicly recognized.

While several Good Samaritans have already been identified through videos, witness accounts, and official reports, the Mayor wants to go a step further by ensuring that as many individuals as possible receive recognition for their actions. From those who helped passengers reach safety to others who provided supplies, comfort, transportation, or assistance behind the scenes, residents believe many heroes have yet to be identified.

One example mentioned was a nurse who was on her way to work at a local hospital and stopped to provide a first aid kit and assistance at the scene. The Mayor and residents believe there are many similar stories that have yet to be told.

The crash brought together police officers, firefighters, paramedics, medical professionals, bystanders, and ordinary residents who rushed toward danger despite the risks posed by fire, smoke, fuel, and uncertainty.

Mayor’s statement:
“In today’s world, we often hear stories of people looking the other way or hesitating to get involved. But what I witnessed was something entirely different. I saw several Laredoans put their own safety aside and risk their lives to help people they had never met.

Their courage, selflessness, and willingness to act in a moment of crisis remind us of the very best of our community. These individuals did not stop to ask who needed help, they simply stepped forward when it mattered most.

Their actions exemplify the spirit of Laredo: neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers, and a community united by compassion and courage. We are proud of these everyday heroes, and their example will not be forgotten.”

Anyone who assisted during the crash or knows someone who did is encouraged to contact the Mayor’s Office so those individuals can be considered for recognition.
