A prominent plaintiffs’ law firm named Edelson has filed a new lawsuit against DoNotPay Inc., which describes itself as “the world’s first robot lawyer” and says it uses artificial intelligence to help clients in court.

The lawsuit contends that the company is practicing law without a license. DoNotPay “is not actually a robot, a lawyer, or a law firm,” according to a proposed class action filed in state court in San Francisco on March 3 and uploaded on the court’s open website.

Jonathan Faridian, a citizen of California, said he engaged DoNotPay in San Francisco to produce demand letters, a small claims court filing, and LLC operating paperwork and received “substandard and badly done” output. Edelson filed the lawsuit on Faridian’s behalf.
