You have probably glanced up at one time or another and been astounded by what you saw floating gracefully across the sky, a larger than life hot air balloon carrying passengers in the basket below. On a trip, which usually runs a little over an hour and can reach heights of up to 1,500 feet, you're likely to fly over groves, farms, lakes, and of course, the jewel of Lake Wales, Bok Tower Gardens.

A flight with other guests costs $275 a person. A private flight runs $850.

For those of you that might be wondering, Lake Wales Airport has been hosting three P-51 Mustang aircraft that are practicing for Sun n’ Fun. They will be here until Friday evening. The group is called Jack Aces Formation Aerobatic Team.

A group of adventurists explored the Lake Wales Airport and received first class treatment. Scouting’s male and female youth and adult leaders participating in the 2024 Powder Horn course got the chance to learn the various components of a propeller airplane. Some even took to the air and operated the aircraft with the flight instructor.

The 2024 course was the largest and most robust course ever conducted by the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council in the last 15 years. There was participation from 11 different states and 18 councils. 50 course electives were available to participants.

Powder Horn is an amazing, out-of-the-box, mind-expanding course facilitated by the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. It introduces and exposes Venturing and Scouting youth and adult leaders to the activities and resources necessary to operate a successful outdoor, high adventure unit-level program. Based on the eight core requirements and 18 electives of the Venturing Ranger program, Powder Horn helps adult leaders identify and use resources to conduct unit-level high adventure programs.
