When disaster strikes, 14 days isn’t always enough. But is 30 days the answer?

FMCSA has doubled the automatic regulatory relief period for qualifying regional emergencies from 14 to 30 days.

That gives carriers more flexibility during prolonged disruptions, but it also raises a bigger question:

Does more regulatory relief make supply chains more resilient, or simply give us more time to manage the disruption?

Flexibility matters. But it can’t replace strong contingency planning, reliable capacity, and an operation built to adapt.

The U.S. House recently voted to reauthorize the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act through 2029, potentially continuing federal support for replacing and upgrading older diesel equipment.

For fleet leaders, it’s another reason to take a closer look at when, how, and why you replace equipment.
