This experience needs to be shared!!! A better system NEEDS TO HAPPEN with American Airlines Cargo! Never in my life, have I ever experienced this with shipping! I am absolutely baffled, sad, & extremely frustrated on how American Airlines Cargo at Chicago O’hare International airport handled a puppy from my F litter. He was shipped out on the 28th of July 2026 from John Wayne Airport in California. Everything was fine there except for the workers being about 30 minutes late. The process itself was smooth & the workers were very nice & respectful. The pup made it to Chicago safely. Here is where it gets RIDICULOUS! The pup landed at Chicago airport at around 2pm give or take, Chicago time, which is 12pm California time. The shipper, which is myself & the owner didn’t get a call until about 5pm California time & 7pm Chicago time. I did not receive any emails, phone calls, or texts that the pup landed in Chicago & that the flight was cancelled prior to 5pm California time, mind you he landed at 2pm Chicago time!!! I spoke to the representative & asked where he was at. They stated he was at Wags Hotel in Chicago. I called Wags & they stated HE WAS NOT THERE. They hadn’t received any calls to pick up any animals. Wags said they would contact myself & the puppy owner as soon as they got the call from American Airlines. So I’m thinking, “where the hell is my puppy?” Myself & the owner are on the phone trying to figure out where he’s at. Apparently he was still at cargo. One representative told the owner that the puppy was at the “pet center.” That’s just a way for them to try to make the owner “feel better.” The puppy was at cargo! He was at the cargo in Chicago from 2pm until about 9pm! That’s already bad enough but what’s even worse is staff at American Airlines didn’t even replenish his water or food! The funny not so funny part is, one of the representatives told me, “Don’t worry, American Airlines will take care of your puppy & they will give the puppy food & water.” She said that multiple times! 😂. The food I’m not as upset about because he did eat that day but to NOT AT LEAST PROVIDE WATER IS ABSOLUTELY NOT ACCEPTABLE! Had I known poor boy was going to experience this, I never would have shipped him. We are absolutely disgusted, disappointed & appalled with how American Airlines in Chicago handled our puppy! Not only are we furious with how they handled him, but we are also furious about the extreme lack of care & communication between myself & the owner! I am writing this to bring awareness to other animal owners who have used & use American Airlines. Starting now, WE WILL NO LONGER BE SHIPPING PUPPIES THROUGH ANY CARGO SERVICE!! We take pride in how we care for our puppies & treat them with love & respect. They are raised in a family environment & we handle them with care. This was absolutely not acceptable in any way shape or form. I am so sad that my boy, Fable had to experience such lack of care. He truly is such a sweet boy. Thankfully he is now safe in the care of his furever owners. They did such a great job handling him with such care when they FINALLY RECEIVED HIM. They gave him time to unwind before going to their home & showed him the love, respect, & kindness he deserves. They also gave him WATER & FOOD, unlike the cargo staff at Chicago Airport. So please learn from the experience we went through & stay clear of this! We are truly blessed that something worse did not happen to him. A huge shout out to Wags at Chicago airport for going above and beyond, once they received Fable! They were absolutely appalled about how American Airlines treated Fable!! Wags staff stayed longer to make sure they were going to receive Fable. They also washed him off, gave him love, gave him food/water, & treated him with respect. We truly appreciate you Wags staff at Chicago airport! Wag Hotels
