In September of 1565, St. Augustine was settled in Florida, becoming the oldest continually inhabited city in the continental United States!

From Juan Ponce de Leon’s early discoveries on America’s Atlantic coast, to Henry Flager’s legacy in railway development, so much of Florida’s rich history can be traced back St. Augustine.

You can learn more about the city’s historic impact by visiting one of the many stops on our Florida America250 road trip: america250fl.com/roadtrip/

🚗➡️❓Could you get home if your usual route was blocked?

This National Preparedness Month, take five minutes to identify at least two alternate routes for your daily commute.

🌩️ 🌊 🚨 Severe weather, flooding, and other emergencies can impact roadways with little warning. Knowing another way home can help keep you safe.

This Labor Day holiday, put safety first by driving sober.

Impaired driving is illegal and puts lives at risk. Whether you're under the influence of alcohol, ma*****na, or other impairing substances, it is NEVER ok to get behind the wheel. Make the right choice by planning ahead, designating a sober driver, or making other arrangements. Together, we can save lives and help keep Florida’s roads safe.

Drowsy driving doesn't just impact drivers, it endangers everyone on the road. During Florida's Drowsy Driving Prevention Week, here are the warning signs you should never ignore:

❌Frequent yawning
❌Difficulty focusing
❌Missing your exit
❌Drifting out of your lane
❌Hitting rumble strips

If you notice any of these warning signs, it’s time to pull over and take a break.

🚧✨ NEW PROJECT ALERT!✨🚧
🌿 Something green is growing on I-295 at Commonwealth Avenue! Crews are planting holly, cedar, crape myrtle, pine, live oak, Sabal palm, and cypress trees as part of a landscaping project that will give the corridor a fresh new look. 🌴✨

Arazoza Brothers is estimated to complete the $2.2 million project by early 2027, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while drowsy can have dangerous, and sometimes deadly, consequences. During Florida’s Drowsy Driving Prevention Week, we are highlighting simple ways to stay safe.

✅ GET ENOUGH SLEEP: This is the best way to ensure you stay alert while driving. If you have stayed awake for 24 hours or more, do not drive.

✅TAKE A BREAK: On long trips, try to stop every 100 miles or two hours. The Florida Department of Transportation operates dozens of rest areas along Florida’s interstate highways for you to stop and take a break.

✅USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM: Ride with someone else and switch off who drives to give yourself a break.

🐊 As UF gets ready to kick off the season this Saturday in the Swamp, Head Coach Jon Sumrall is reminding everyone that safety is a team effort.

Whether you’re heading to the game, tailgating or celebrating after the last whistle, remember to:

🏈 Plan ahead.
🚗 Drive responsibly.
🤝 Look out for each other.

Throwback to the early, early beginnings of I-10 in Florida.

Taken in September of 1957, this photo shows a group of people looking over the proposed plans for I-10 through Tallahassee just a few years before the first section of this critical corridor was completed on the east side of Florida as part of Eisenhower’s Interstate System. Nearly 70 years later, this coast-to-coast interstate has transformed transportation in North Florida, connecting communities and fueling economic growth across the region.
