🚨 BREAKING: Spirit Airlines Has Shut Down 🚨
Hey friends, Jenn here with an important travel update that could affect some of you, especially if you booked your own flights for an upcoming Disney trip.
Overnight, Spirit Airlines ceased all operations. All flights are cancelled. Customer service is no longer available. The Spirit counter at the airport is empty. This is not a delay or a temporary hiccup. The airline is winding down for good.
Here's what you need to know if you or someone you love has Spirit tickets:
❌ What NOT to do
Do not call Spirit. Do not drive to the airport hoping to talk to someone at the counter. There is no one there to help you. You will only waste time you don't have.
✅ What TO do
Rebook your flights as soon as possible. Last minute fares climb fast, and demand is going to surge today as thousands of stranded travelers scramble for seats. The sooner you act, the better your options.
Several airlines are stepping up with special rescue fares for affected Spirit customers:
🛫 JetBlue is capping one way fares at $99 through May 6th. Call 1 800 JETBLUE with proof of your Spirit itinerary.
🛫 Southwest is capping domestic fares by distance ($200, $300, or $400 depending on trip length).
🛫 Frontier, United, and American are also offering assistance.
💳 What about your money?
If you booked directly with Spirit using a credit or debit card, Spirit said they will automatically process refunds. If that doesn't come through, your credit card company can help with a chargeback.
If you booked through a third party site (Expedia, Priceline, a travel agent, etc.), reach out to them directly. They handle the refund, not Spirit.
If you paid with points, vouchers, or trip credit, this is the tough part. Reimbursement will be determined through the bankruptcy court process, and that can take a long time. There are no guarantees on points or vouchers when an airline liquidates.
🏰 Headed to Disney soon?
If your Spirit flight was part of a Disney trip, please don't panic, but please don't wait either. Every hour matters when it comes to rebooking. If you're feeling overwhelmed and need help sorting it out, that's literally what I do.
This is exactly the kind of situation our Disney World Vacation Rescue service was built for. If you booked your trip independently and now feel in over your head, reach out. I can help you figure out next steps, find new flights, and get your vacation back on track.
