LFT hosted a next-generation electric aircraft up close to demonstrate how Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is taking flight in Lafayette through LIFTOff Louisiana. Launched in August, LIFTOff Louisiana is a statewide AAM initiative by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to test next-generation aircraft and cargo drones.

The program evaluates cargo and personnel transport routes over the Gulf to support offshore energy facilities in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. It tests rapid disaster response and medical transport capabilities, and safely integrates electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and autonomous cargo drones into the National Airspace System alongside traditional aircraft.

LIFTOff Louisiana was selected by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as one of only eight pilot projects nationwide. Thank you BETA TECHNOLOGIES, LADOTD Aviation and Metro Aviation for today’s glimpse into the future.
