Sabres mania is alive and well here at the Port of Buffalo! ⚔️

Earlier this week, our friends Port de Montréal/Destination Grand Quai issued us a challenge that we were happy to accept.

If Buffalo Sabres win the playoff series, their staff will wear a Sabres jersey at their port and post a photo. But if Canadiens de Montréal win, we will have to do the same with a Canadiens jersey. Just a fun way to raise the stakes a bit and add even more excitement to this amazing run that the Sabres have been on.

Let’s Go Buffalo! 🦬

With the Seaway closed for the winter, now is a great time to highlight some of the Port of Buffalo’s history of global importance.

The land that the Port of Buffalo currently occupies is formerly that of the Bethlehem Steel plant. During World War II, this plant became the world’s largest single steelmaking operation, employing over 20,000 workers. The plant’s production focused heavily on supplies for the war effort, including steel plates for tanks and ships, structural steel for defense plants and forgings for guns, shells and aircraft engines.

Just like today, the existence of a deep water port and abundance of nearby railroads made this location an integral and strategic link within the international supply chain. 🌎
