In 1915, East Lake Resort opened its doors on the shores of East Lake in the caldera of Newberry Volcano – the largest volcano in the Cascade Range. Rebuilt in 1942, our current resort is a full service facility 45 miles southeast of Bend, Oregon. Our rem

oteness gives you the chance to unplug and unwind in the heart of one of Central Oregon’s most scenic regions. Classic cabins, tent sites, RV sites and watercraft (from paddle boards to pontoons and fishing boats) are available for rent. The Blue Duck Grill provides a relaxing atmosphere for a pub style meal. The on-site general store and tackle shop will take care of your last minute camping and fishing needs. The gift shop gives guests an opportunity to shop for a unique gift or clothing item. The 1050 acre lake, at 6,400 feet altitude, is known as one of the finest lake fisheries in Oregon. Brown Trout, Kokanee, and Rainbow Trout are available for harvest throughout the season. Bruce Bronson and Rob and Sandy Morrison have owned the resort since March 2014 and welcome you to spend a few hours or few days enjoying the unique Oregon experience.

Did you know there’s a small obsidian flow along the Newberry Crater Trail right behind the RV Park at East Lake Resort? 🌋

One of the coolest parts about staying at East Lake is that you can go from coffee at camp to hiking through volcanic history in just a few minutes.

The black glass-like rock along the trail is obsidian, formed from fast-cooling lava during past volcanic activity in the Newberry Caldera. It’s such a unique landscape — and a reminder that there’s so much more to explore here beyond the lake itself.

East Lake Resort really is the perfect launch pad for hiking, fishing, paddling, relaxing, and slowing down for a while. Happy adventuring 🌲🐦🌞

Memorial Day Weekend at East Lake Resort 🌲☀️

The Blue Duck Grill is officially open with new menu items to check out this season, and we’re already loving the Sweet Harvest Chicken Salad 🥗🍎

Grilled chicken, apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, mixed greens, and housemade balsamic vinaigrette — the perfect lake day meal. 🙌

There’s just something about being up here on the caldera that feels like a different world. Come spend the day on the water, then stop by the Blue Duck Grill for lunch or dinner. 🌊🚤

📍A quick travel update for anyone heading up to East Lake Resort!

Google Maps sometimes incorrectly shows road closures or detours at the beginning of the season, but access into the resort via Paulina Lake Road from Highway 97 is OPEN 🙌

➡️ Turn off Hwy 97 onto Paulina Lake Rd
➡️ Follow it all the way to the top (18 miles) to East Lake Resort

The resort is still getting ready for the season, with full opening beginning May 15 and the Blue Duck Grill opens on May 22. The store is currently open with limited hours, and the docks are not yet in (coming soon).

We are excited to see everyone at the lake this season ☀️!

Feels like summer showed up early this year ☀️🌲

Nearby Forest Service campgrounds won’t open until mid-June, so it’s an especially peaceful time to visit.

✨ What’s opening at East Lake Resort:
🔓 Gate opens → Thursday, May 7
🚐 RV Park + Tent Sites + Cabins → ready May 15
🛶 Boat access & docks → starting May 15
🍔 Restaurant opens → May 22
🛍️ Store → limited hours starting May 7 (for fishing gear, snacks, and essentials)

We know everyone’s excited to get out on the water (we are too!), and we’ll be ready for you starting the 15th 🙌

Early season up here is quiet, calm, and magical—warm days, cool mornings, and plenty of space to spread out.

If you find yourself heading this way, we’ll be here 🙂

P.S. We’re working hard to get everything up and running—if the boat launch is ready before May 15, you’ll be the first to know!
