Today we celebrate an incredible career and a legacy that will be felt in Kirkwood for years to come.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Chief / Chief Medical Officer David Smith on his retirement announcement. After more than 26 years of dedicated service, leadership, and compassion, he’s stepping into a well-earned next chapter beginning in January 2026.

Deputy Chief Smith has been a steady hand on countless calls, a mentor to generations of firefighters and paramedics, and an unwavering advocate for the health and safety of our community. His impact reaches far beyond the walls of the firehouse.

Thank you, Chief Smith, for your commitment, your integrity, and your decades of service to the citizens of Kirkwood. We’re grateful for everything you’ve given this department.

Retirement ceremony to be announced soon!
