After a very busy season running sunset trips from the Key Largo Hampton Inn, the Co-Vid pandemic put a halt to my guide business. I converted to delivering Wavewalk kayaks along the East Coast. The Keys have somewhat opened again but I do not want to mix parties on my tours. Still, I am considering family & friends chartered adventures in mornings and evenings through the summer. We'll see. Probably, much of this viral activity will subside following the election in November. Best Wishes. Stay Safe!

Finally, the Wavewalk Express has been completed. She has a new 150 hp Yamaha Outboard and six coats of epoxy bottom paint. The night lighting system works well. We ran our first sunset trip last night. Manatees, dolphin and a great sunset and so much more. Morning custom charters are available. Afternoon and sunset trips depart from the Hampton Inn. Looking forward to a great winter season in sunny warm Key Largo. Book ahead, please: 305-680-8841.

On the last day of June 2019, I ran my final sunset trip from Sundowners Restaurant. The new owners from Miami did not renew the dockage rental with Capt. Sterling's Everglades Eco-Tours.

Instead of moving with the business to docks that are less appealing (IMHO) I have chosen to upgrade my own small commercial boatyard that is tucked neatly between John Pennekamp State Park and the Dagny Johnson State Park. My next door neighbor is the Shipwreck's Restaurant which has an excellent affordable menu and is super friendly to both tourists and locals.

Over the next few months, I will be securing the liability insurance, llc designation, multiple State and Federal licenses/permits to run my own excursion/charter business as well as rent out commercial dock space to other working captains displaced by a wave of Miami mediocrity moving southward.

In the meantime, I am still outfitting and selling motorized kayaks that can be found at wavewalk.com or floridafishingkayaks.com.

The commercial corridor of Garden Cove in Key Largo has the best access to all of our Federal, State, and County Parks in the Upper Keys. Although I thoroughly enjoyed running trips for Capt. Sterling and his wife, Admiral Jill, it is time for me to provide a greater level of access to all of our parks as well as increase my own dockage rental income.

After running over 600 trips over the past year and a half, this is a great time to take some time off and fix up my work boats while decking out the new inshore pontoon boat that I intend to light up to visit and view the nearshore waters of Key Largo after dark.

Stay tuned...

Wow! Over a year has passed since Irma blew through town. I am still doing demos and selling Wavewalk twin hull kayaks but I have had to curtail fishing expeditions. The costs of multiple jurisdictional permits and offshore insurance added to increased reporting requirements have put me out of the charter business. However, I am most fortunate to be providing guide service for Capt. Sterling's Everglades Eco-tours. Showing people mangroves, manatees, and so much more is a wonderful way to spend the retirement years and protect our Upper Keys fishery. Plus, we get to watch the sunset on our evening trips. And, someone else gets the boat maintenance and costs of doing business on the water. A great deal for all of us! When you call Capt. Sterling, please, ask for Cap'n Larry. Merry Christmas!

Hurricane Irma dumped a world of hurt on the Keys. But, all the Wavewalk boats pulled thru with no damage. Our Wavewalk Adventures guide service and retail sales will be up and running in a couple weeks. The commercial fishing work boats will take somewhat more time to refurbish. Still, we are most grateful for what we have.
