Greater Kansas City Model Railroad Club

Greater Kansas City Model Railroad Club The club is a Model Railroad Club that has built and operates a HO Layout. Two large helices are used to run trains between the three levels of the layout.

The Club has created a 21 by 46 foot, HO scale railroad layout called the Brush Creek & Western Railroad. This is a Midwestern freelanced bridge route with the modeled portion of the layout representing the area roughly from mid-Missouri to south central Kansas through the Kansas City area. The layout is a tri-level model railroad using of the “mushroom’ concept that maximizes the amount of modele

d area and aisle spaces. The largest and tallest helix has double main lines and four 26 foot center sidings. It starts at 16 inches above the floor and goes to 74 inches above the floor. There are eight towns and one branch line on the modeled portion of the layout. There are two staging yards on the lowest level of layout. The railroad is modeled in the years from 1935 to 1975. This allows the members to operate in three different eras: steam, steam-diesel transition or the diesel era. The railroad is completely signaled and uses CTC to control the train movements. The system has an auto run feature that allows up to 10 trains to be run at the same time.
