Recently the Kansas City Aviation Department worked with Vazquez Contracting with support from Infinity Sign Systems to complete some restoration and maintenance of the Alice Aycock sculpture, Strange Attractor (2007).

The scope of the project included replacing the neon with LED lights, replacing the faded acrylic, and repairing the reflectors within the metal horn.

The artist was involved in the project from the beginning and was fully supportive of all details of the work. The sculpture is located in a roundabout on the roadway leading to Economy Parking at the Kansas City International Airport.

Overnight Spirit Airlines ceased operations, including at Kansas City International Airport (MCI).

While Spirit was not a large presence at MCI, only three direct routes, we understand there will still be travelers impacted. Each of the three routes, Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, and Las Vegas are served by other carriers.

Impacted passengers are advised to contact their booking provider if tickets were bought through a 3rd party site or their credit card issuer for potential refunds.

Several active airlines have also offered their support in helping passengers rebook.

Spirit has set up a website for any passengers affected by their shuttering to answer questions about next steps.
