Union Sisters & Brothers:

As this extraordinarily difficult year comes to an end, we wish you, your families and friends a safe and happy holiday season.

The members of our Unions, like seafarers and longshoremen worldwide, have been touched in 2020 by sadness, loss and grief.

Many Sisters and Brothers or their loved ones have been lost due to COVID-19 related illness. Others have died in the normal hazards of our occupations - made worse by the additional fatigue and stress wrought by the current pandemic. Scores have been laid off or trapped at sea for months at a time awaiting crew change and repatriation. Outside of wartime, going to sea this year has been the most difficult of any period in memory. Life on the waterfront has rarely been more uncertain.

Throughout it all, our collective membership have done their duty on the docks and aboard every type of vessel on the oceans of the world and on inland waters.

Thank you all for holding fast through these difficult times. May you all enjoy the holidays, in safety, fraternity and hope.

Wishing all at sea and along the shore a safe and healthy Thanksgiving for you, your friends and loved ones. It has been a year of trial for millions of Americans, the labor movement and humanity in general. Let’s be thankful for the relief that appears to be on the horizon and work together to keep each other safe and to aid those in distress.
