Info on our monthly Youth Aviation Day:
📣📣Please take note of the following change going forward: We will be prioritizing first time fliers only for the first half of the morning (9-10:30am) but for the second half of the morning it will be simply in order of when you arrived and got your name on the list. So arriving early gives you the best chance of getting a good spot on the wait list.
...........
Happening on the 2nd Saturday of each month, from 9-noon at the Junction City, Kansas airport!
On the second Saturday of every month, a group of pilots and anyone who loves or is interested in learning about airplanes, meets at the EAA hangar at the Junction City, Kansas airport from 9am-noon.
We call this Youth Aviation Day, sponsored by Flint Hills EAA Chapter 1364 and Greater Manhattan Community Foundation Don Dodge Fund.
Here's what you need to know:
✈️No registration required. No cost. Come and go anytime between those hours.
✈️If weather allows and there are pilots available, kids between the ages of 8-17 can go fly in a real airplane (about 20-30 minute ride) with an experienced pilot. Parents must stay on site and fill out paperwork before the flight but do not ride with the child. Alternatively, a child can also just request a tour of a plane and/or to just taxi out on the runway.
✈️We now have THREE computer simulators on site for kids to practice flying either a full size plane or a radio controlled plane.
✈️There is a hands-on project in the shop area of the hangar where the kids are encouraged to help us construct an aircraft that we will eventually be able to fly. (It's called a Quick Silver Sport 2S, if you want to Google it.)
✈️Kids who have never flown with us before will be put at the top of the waitlist from 9-10:30 and then after that it's simply on a first come, first serve basis until noon. We have many repeat flyers who come out monthly and this is encouraged! We are so glad they liked it enough to come back!
✈️There is also a scholarship opportunity. In past years, we've received the opportunity to fund a deserving student in the goal of earning their private pilot license.
The goal is to introduce young people to the world of aviation. Some kids go on to chose careers as commercial pilots, mechanics, flight instructors, etc. Others just discover they love flying as a hobby. Our job is just to provide the opportunity to learn if it's for them or not......
Please feel free to share this post to help us get the word out about this free program! Posting on Facebook is one of our most effective ways to show people what we do each month. Thank you!
