Your trucking dispatcher can be your best friend or your worst enemy as a trucker.
In any case, no one will have a greater impact on your success as a driver than your dispatcher. As a trucker, you can significantly improve your situation by cultivating a positive working relationship with dispatch. That includes having a clear knowledge of dispatch's responsibility to you as a driver, as well as your responsibility to dispatch. For example, as a trucker, it is your responsibility to keep dispatch informed of your schedule and any potential obstacles that may prevent you from adhering to it. Things like suddenly feeling ill, witnessing a big storm on the horizon, or encountering a problem with your truck should all be reported to dispatch as soon as possible.
In turn, dispatch is required to ensure that you have all of the information you need to handle the loads you have been assigned to, as well as to advise you of any changes that may influence your current load assignment. When a potential crisis emerges, dispatch is in charge of gathering as much information as possible and contacting the necessary persons in order to assist you in resolving the matter as soon and efficiently as feasible.
