WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION

With the threat of nuclear war ever present from certain warmongering quarters, it's useful to know what action to take in the event of a nuclear blast.
- [ ] I've already established that my best place for a nuclear hideaway at home is the cupboard under the stairs. Not comfortable, but there are no windows, so it should keep the fallout at bay.
If you find yourself outside during a nuclear blast, cover your eyes to prevent being blinded by the brightness. The CDC says if you're caught outside, drop to the ground, face down, hands under body to protect yourself from debris and heat. Cover your nose and mouth, and keep your mouth slightly open so that your eardrums don't burst from the pressure.
Following a blast, you have fifteen minutes before nuclear fallout drops to the ground, so find shelter as fast as possible. Radiation exposure risk reduces to 55% an hour after the explosion, and within 24 hours, 80% of the radiation has dissipated, so you need to hide in a suitable shelter for at least 24 hours to protect yourself from the bulk of the radiation. Otherwise, radiation exposure could kill you.
Try to get as far away from the blast as possible in 10-15 minutes, then find shelter away from fallen buildings and away from the wind. Shelter indoors, away from windows because shock waves can shatter windows.
If you were outside during the blast, remove contaminated clothes, place them in a sealed plastic bag, and take a shower. Hide in your shelter and wait 24 hours before re-emerging into the world.

Please bear in mind that DOT started to put speed cameras on the interstates. One example : IOWA
I80 now has a camera that will send you the ticket where your trailer or truck is registered. ( whatever the camera captures : truck or trailer license plate ). Speed tickets are expensive and we caution that you stay away from them. Please drive safe !
