Rebuilding a rotten teak step. Original was plywood with 1/8th veneer and some squirrely caulk lines that look drawn on. New is 1” solid teak on 3/8” marine ply. Glued up with West 610. Sand and caulk tomorrow.

Freedom’s saga is over. I made the repair, per the approved Coast Guard repair plan. The Coast Guard inspected my work and passed the repair. Freedom made it under her own power to the repair yard, where she will be properly repaired. Can’t say my work was pretty (a quick and dirty repair that will be destroyed later), but it met the bar and the boat was safely delivered.

Started a “temporary repair” today on Freedom. The surveyor collaborated with me and created a repair plan that he then submitted to the Coast Guard for approval. It was approved and today I started by clearing out a bunch of debris and coordinating a floating dock for tomorrow.

The boat needs to make it out to Long Island. Once there, it will be hauled and a proper repair will be done by a shipwright over the winter.

I will ask the surveyor what happened again and report back - I have already forgotten.

We had heavy rain the day before the survey and the surveyor noted some water in one of the cabins. I made a mental note and moved on. Next day the area was still damp and I cleaned out the closet where the water had mostly collected. Well…
