Crowe Cycling Chronicles

Crowe Cycling Chronicles This is my perspective as an old fat southern dude attempting big adventures on gravel & mountain bikes with tips on how to prepare for and plan them.

I hope to make you laugh, but more importantly, motivate you to try.

Thank you to everyone who reached out with kindness, and even to the folks who came in hot! I get it, you weren't there and a video clip doesn't tell the whole story. I should have shared, I own several ebikes and freaking love them. This was never meant to be an "ebikes bashing" post; this specific trail just doesn't allow them, and around a blind corner I had zero reason to expect one. Lesson learned the hard way for this old guy.

We were both riding like the cycling fanatics we are — hard, committed, on a 2way trail. That's mountain biking. Blind corners are blind corners, uphill or down, and it's on all of us to take them a little easier and skip the earbuds so we can hear each other coming, even if we’re pursuing PRs.

Shout out to the other rider: he totally stepped up, covered the damage, and has been a straight-up, nice guy. I really appreciate him.

And ya, horses use this trail too. Crossed my mind lying on the ground, not as a dig at him, just a reminder we're all sharing the woods with things bigger than bikes.

I turned off comments on my original post because you guys were wearing out my cell phone battery with all the notifications. I may agree to disagree on something, but normally open to input.

Stay safe, ride smart, thanks for the love (and the tough love too). See y'all out there.

WARNING Cursing! Yesterday while pre-riding Fool’s Gold race course on Jake Mtn Trail with a group of friends, I was hit head-on by another rider on an ebike around a blind curve. Ebikes are banned on trails in Chattahoochee NF. He broke my $600 camera (which he later paid to replace), cut my carbon bar, and twisted brake/shifter levers. I got a black eye, strained chest muscle, cut knee, and possibly fractured collarbone. Thankfully he didn’t run into riders on horseback since this is near the horse parking area. I’ve kept his (recognizable) face & name out of my posts. — at Chattahoochee National Forest. (Sorry for the cussing)
