The old Rooster Man comes outta the

c**khouse with the same ole Grey's everyone has seen him with for years. A young man offers to handle him and the old Rooster man politely declines. The young man later asked him why he didn't let him both knowing the young man would do much better. The Rooster man replies " that's my rooster he's been mine all his life. I gathered him up the day he hatched and gave him a mark so I would know him for the rest of his life. I watched him grow, chase bugs and pullets and fly high into the trees in the evening. I penned and walked him then I conditioned and brought him here."

Then the rooster man explained I've been with him every step and didn't want to skip the last one. You see he was Rooster man and he knew even if he couldn't do things the way he once did he did know what he shared with the little Grey rooster and a rooster man connects with his warriors and when it comes down to it that connection will get him through even more than fast young hands and slick releases. It's always all about the heart, something you don't see and I'm failing to explain but I'm going to feel that again someday.

When I was still in high school, there was an old man lived around cl, se and he had game roosters. I went by often and he was always very nice. One day I went by and all the chickens were gone except a few stags and pullets he said I could catch and have. He had just got old and down and couldn't do it anymore. I asked how they were bred and he said they are St.Roman Tarters. Yes that's what he said I'd never heard of them and very little since. Well I got them all trimmed and healed up and back then us few guys that had roosters we all got together for hacks Well my little Tarters were unbeatable I think I used 6 of them and never got close to losing one. Man I thought I'd discovered the next great thing I was so proud and a little c**ky I guess. So they are two now and I'm ready for the big time.

I'd saved money all summer and I entered my first 4 C**k. So I got them ready and headed out for glory I knew was just 4 pittings away. First one just did what they always did. He knocked his opponent down fast but took forever to finish.

Next came out great and really got into a ole Hatch c**k I though we got him good, but nothing really happened but that Hatch got mad. Well I think you guys have figured how this is about to go. All down hill and being young I hadn't attended the other roosters all day. Well we get called again and as soon as I open the box I knew something was wrong.

When I caught it, it was like grabbing a c**n. Then in the drop pen he completely hacks up he starts singing like hen with that ole skinny neck. So that was how that went. Do any of you have a similar story. Please like, share and comment. Thanks.

Of all the show roosters I ever raised this was the best one, and ive been at this since before Kenny Rogers tried to destroy country music. It wasn't because he won a lot but the way he won them was always so impressive. He wasn't built especially good, he was shorter with a long body. His mother was a little crippled hen I caught off the yard at Deadend farms. She looked like hell and he was going to cull her and I asked to keep her. The sire was a pure WT Greene Grey c**k that would be lucky to weigh 4 pounds. I raised 4 brothers all were pretty good roosters but this guy was special. He had more hate and determination than anything I've ever seen. He was so unique he was always very happy and playful. I raised a lot of good roosters and had success for several years due to that little cull hen. You know through our history a lot of great families have started from a dead pile c**k, or something no one wanted. I bet some of you guys have similar stories. Thanks for reading, please follow, like, comment and share if you wouldn't mind.

You know when I was a kid I was known as the "Dead Pile Kid". All my weekends were spent at my uncles pit and the off weekend we were always somewhere else. Where ever we went if their was a stack, pile or barrel I was standing by looking for any sign of life. I'd always end up with at least one I could save. I would take the left over soft feed my uncle was feeding roosters with and I'd hand feed and water them until they were up crowing again. Most always they had something wrong with them and they generally ended up being really mean. I would keep them up at night and then tie them out during the day with bailing twine to a heavy block. One weekend an old man told my uncle he went to toss one in the barrel and I caught it mid air but he was already gone. It got to where if people lost an ole rooster they'd just hand to me. I think I had up to 25 at one time. It was fun but you know how much I learned doing this. How to tend to wounds and how some tried to get better and some wouldn't. The biggest thing I learned was they were put in that barrel for a reason. So the lesson I guess was learning to see the difference in good ones and bad ones.

One of my old Givens c**ks back when I had the farm going in the right direction. I didn't sell fowl for a very long time then I put a classified add in the Gamec**k magazine. I just sold a few pure stags and pullets but mostly for my own use. I was a much better rooster man before I got to selling. I always said I wouldn't chase the money and I'd do this the right way. I didn't though hell I've been poor all my life and the extra money helped but it changed things. I honestly wish I never started selling them because you don't just sell your chickens you sell a lot of yourself. You see I've done this my whole life and you train your mind to keep the best ones and cull the rest and I never got comfortable seeing my best head down the road. Don't get me wrong I value the relationships I made while shipping fowl but it run me down and that connection I had with my fowl I lost that. The love and passion were not the same. I always wanted it to be but they went from my passion to a commodity. It destroyed my body trying to raise way to many with my old fashion methods and the stress destroyed my mind and made a bitter hateful ole bastard that started seeing people as a opportunity rather than with kindness. Getting down like I am I spend a lot of time thinking about what mistakes I've made and where life might have taken me if I had made all the right decisions. It's worthless to spend much time wishing I had always been perfect, all we can do is go forward and try our best. This wasn't easy but maybe someone is on fence and headed off the wrong side. Always remember if your a real ROOSTER MAN you'll always choose what's best for fowl not your bank account. If you do try selling fowl, keep it under control. Thanks for reading.
