History is coming down the tracks. 🚂

This November, a steam locomotive will arrive in Gettysburg as part of Lincoln at Gettysburg: Shall Not Perish, a special commemoration of President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and the nation’s America250 celebration, presented by the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania and Gettysburg National Military Park.

On November 18, a steam-powered train will recreate Lincoln’s arrival in Gettysburg, carrying approximately 200 invited passengers before a reenactor portraying President Lincoln makes his way through the streets of Gettysburg to the David Wills House, retracing the path Lincoln took before delivering the Gettysburg Address in 1863.

Then, November 19–21, it’s your turn to climb aboard.

GettysburgRailway will offer three days of special one-hour excursions behind visiting Northern Central Railway steam locomotive No. 17.

Following a fire earlier this year, the Hunterstown power plant near Gettysburg has been operating at reduced capacity while awaiting a replacement transformer.

This week, that replacement made an important part of its journey. Our Gettysburg & Northern Railroad team safely handled the high-wide move across GET, serving as a bridge between Norfolk Southern and CSX as multiple supply chain partners worked together to get this critical equipment to its destination.

Hunterstown powers several million households, and the transformer will help the facility return to full operations.

Proud of our GET team for safely delivering their part of the journey and demonstrating the important role short lines play in keeping critical infrastructure moving.

It was a great few days of connecting, learning and sharing ideas at the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association Super Regional Meeting.
Patriot Rail leaders joined industry panels covering everything from short line and Class I collaboration to excursion and freight operations, AI adoption and optimizing our digital footprint.

A big thank you to Tom Tisa, David Bevins, Drema Johnson and Laura Mellem for representing Patriot Rail and sharing their expertise, and to our industry partners and counterparts for the great conversations along the way.

Throughout September, Patriot Rail employees were recognized for going above and beyond.

Justin Estes spotted track damage ahead on the Tennessee Southern Railroad and safely stopped his train well before reaching it. Bill Bishop stayed calm during a medical emergency aboard a Blue Ridge Scenic Railway train and helped get the passenger the assistance they needed. And Glen Batten earned praise for outstanding customer service at the Michigan Southern Railroad after a customer personally reached out to recognize his work.

Those are just a few examples of the great work happening across our network every day. Congratulations to all of our September Employee Spotlight honorees!
