Today we summited Graybeard Mountain in Montreat—5,381 feet of Western North Carolina beauty. The trail was a mix of stunning blooming mountain laurel and magnolias, contrasted with the sobering sights of Hurricane Helene’s impact and the resilience of the recovery.

Hard to believe we’ve called Asheville home for nearly a year, but our chapter here is coming to a close. This summer and fall, we’re heading to Europe to tackle the Tour du Mont Blanc and the Camino de Santiago (Portuguese Way).

While we hike, I’ll be putting the finishing touches on my book, "Thirty-Four Days of Misery at Sea," which chronicles our harrowing sailing journey from Florida to Portugal. The goal? Published by Christmas! 🎄🏔️🥾

All good things must come to an end. We have decided to sell Sea Star as we are eager to start another exiting chapter in our lives. It's bittersweet for sure but we are ready to take the next step. We are filled with gratitude and appreciate every one of you for following along by giving thumbs up, commenting and every now and then prayed for us as we have travelled far and wide (at times completely out of our comfort zone). It's been a steep learning curve with many ups and downs and we have learned so much! Thank you for all your support! Please help spread the word so we can get Sea Star sold. She's eagerly waiting for her next adventure

We’ve been dreading pulling out of Safe Harbor Marina in Stuart for a month. The constant south winds rolling up the St. Lucie River have created extreme fetch and currents that have been shoving boats around like toys. We’ve seen quite a few struggling.

We picked today to make our escape. Up at six and pulling out of our slip thirty minutes later. The water was glass. Only the second time all month that we’ve seen that.

Monica and I are tied up at the Safe Harbor Yacht Club in Stuart for the next couple weeks. We installed two rebuilt alternators on the engines yesterday and are waiting to get back and install a clean heat exchanger for our generator before we can leave. Always something with a boat.

But there are worse places to be stuck than Stuart. We love this town and this marina and we will miss it and the new friends we’ve made here when we leave.

We’re enjoying the last few days of Monica’s parents visit in Stuart Fl. Although boat repairs (always boat repairs) kept us from getting as far south as we intended when we cast off from St. Augustine, we’ve still had a wonderful trip.

If you haven’t been to Stuart we recommend it. We spent three months here a couple years ago exploring and enjoying the small town with our oldest daughter Sara Kristin and later, old friends Tommy and Linda who came to visit. We also made some unforgettable new friends and hung out with cruisers we knew who were passing by the marina. Boat life.

Monica and I plan to stay here for a few more weeks for final provisioning and…boat repairs, before crossing over to the Bahamas.

Lots of people wearing green today in Daytona Beach to celebrate Monica’s birthday. We’ve been moored here for several days waiting for the wind to die down. Heading south again tomorrow.
