Cruised the beach this week in search of Cobia from St Augustine to Mayport, while the Cobia were not be found, we ran across a school of huge Black Drum. I estimate this one was about 70 lbs, I sure had a hard time lifting it up! It's always fun to get surprised by an unexpected catch and there are alot of different species on the move this time of the year. The waterways are open, let's go fishing!

Winter fishing has been productive but difficult at times due to windy conditions and cold temps. Our 2 week forecast calls for daytime temps to remain above 70 degrees. Water temperatures will begin to rise quickly bringing an increased quantity of bait and hungry predators! Pictured are a couple nice redfish brought to the boat recently by former Orangeman Brian "Fuzzy" Fetherolf, long snapper (and fisherman) extraordinaire! Spent a cool Thursday afternoon on Jacksonville’s inshore waters, Jim and Tom were rewarded with some nice redfish in the 22-24” range along with lots of action with smaller reds. January weather in NE Florida can get a bit cold, but our 2 week forecast is for mild temperatures with a couple minor cold fronts coming through. Conditions will be great for shallow water action with redfish, pictured is a double header of 24" redfish from last weeks trip with Hayden and Chris! Afternoon tides are optimal through January 15th, morning tides best from the 16th to the 21st. Let's go fishing!

We still have some BIG bull redfish cruising the banks of the St Johns river. Pictured Asher, Easton and Haden White with their dad Brian. The boys each landed their biggest fish ever. After scoring on the bull reds we moved to shallower water and lighter tackle to land another 15 redfish from 15 to 23” along with a couple of nice flounder. Other trips this past week saw nice trout and sheepshead come aboard.

The next 2 months in NE Florida offer an exceptional variety of fishing opportunities, shallow water fishing for redfish and flounder, deeper inshore waters are welcoming our fall run of bull redfish up to the 50lb range and tarpon are feeding actively, both inshore for smaller fish on light tackle and at the jetties and along the beach for larger fish over 100lbs. Flood tide fishing on our grass flats will begin in late September and offer fly-fisherman great fun stalking and sight fishing redfish. Pictured are some recent catches of smaller tarpon, nice shallow water redfish and flounder along with a great pre-sunrise sky! Let's go!
