Truckers Sue Motive Technologies Over Alleged Mass Surveillance via AI Dash Cams

• Truck drivers Adam Dean and Christian Erickson have filed a class action lawsuit against AI dash cam company Motive Technologies Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging "mass surveillance" and improper collection of license plate data.

• The lawsuit claims that Motive's AI-powered dash cam systems, equipped with Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs), identify and record every vehicle in view, violating California's ALPR Law by failing to publicly post required policy and usage information.

• Plaintiffs allege invasion of privacy, emotional distress, and heightened concerns due to surreptitious surveillance, stating that Motive's systems are used by "nearly 100,000 customers and 1.3 million drivers," leading to widespread tracking of Americans.

• The suit further contends that Motive gathered data including vehicle images, license plate numbers, time-stamped locations, and biometric identifiers without the drivers' consent, and seeks $2,500 in damages per class member, punitive damages, and an injunction.
