⚔️ CIVIL WAR SATURDAY — September 12th⚔️

💣Civil War reenactments have been a long-standing tradition on the Iron Mountain. For decades, reenactors have traveled from near and far to bring history to life and recreate moments from the battlefields along the railroad.

🗓️On Saturday, September 12th, we’re keeping that tradition alive with a special Civil War-themed train ride, complete with a soldier encampment at the depot.

🚂 Step back in time and experience a glimpse of life during the American Civil War.

🛠 Behind the Scenes: Keeping 5898 Running

🚂 5898’s #2 engine needed some attention to its Roots blowers. These mechanically driven pumps force large volumes of low-pressure fresh air into the diesel engine’s airbox, providing the air needed for combustion.

Over time, components wear, seals begin to leak, and unusual noises can develop. All signs that the blowers are ready for an overhaul.

💪 Under expert guidance, our volunteers successfully replaced both blowers on the #2 engine. At approximately 400 pounds each, getting these massive components into position inside a cramped engine room is no easy task!

🛤 It’s necessary jobs like this that keep our historic equipment in good safe operating condition.
