Know before you go!! We want all our rafters to have fun but, most of all we want you safe!

Highwater is fun! But, now more than ever, it's important to be prepared for the potential consequences. Even as the water starts to drop, please remember the importance of preparedness and best whitewater practices.

Please take into consideration the low water temperature, and powerful hydraulics.
Don’t go alone and try to have experienced boaters in your group.
Each year, new trees and other debris get swept down the river and deposited in new locations.
Braided sections in the park may be flat but are extremely challenging.
Check water levels the day of your trip. Different flow levels can change rapids, making them more difficult or changing the appropriate way to run them.
Properly fitted life jackets are non-negotiable any time you’re on a boat in moving water.
Drugs and alcohol impair judgement and motor functions affecting your ability to make quick decisions. This can be the difference in a raft flip. Don’t risk your safety and the safety of others.
Be prepared for higher flows (likely over 10,000 cfs) during the 4th of July – even “chill floats” like South Park to Astoria will have features that can capsize most crafts. Be aware of those in your group and keep an eye on everyone.

If in doubt, go with one of our many qualified local outfitters. And always consider getting your Swiftwater Safety Certification if you plan on spending time on the water.
