I get asked daily about tips while traveling to Yellowstone. Here are just a few.
●Bug spray, sunscreen and bear spray (you can rent a can in town) are a must.
●Stay hydrated. With the cooler temperatures, you may not realize that you are dehydrated.
●Taking food and water with you into the park will save you time and money.
●Be prepared for any kind of weather and don't be discouraged by rain or snow flurries. Some of the best fishing, animal sightings and photo opportunities happen right after showers, which typically pass quickly.
●West Yellowstone offers family friendly things to do such as live plays, The museum, Grizzley and Wolf discovery, Music in the Park, the Rod Run, the Rodeo, and of course shopping. Plan some time in town and you will be glad you did.
●There are beautiful things to see outside of the park that are not so packed with people. The Shortline bike trail, ATV trails, and horseback riding.( rentals for all of these activities are available in town)
● Hebgen Lake is stunning and offers fishing, boating, kayaking and just sitting on the beach.
●check the post office bulletin board for special events happening in the area which may include talks by biologist, geologist, or botanist, specials at the local restaurants and bars, bird watching, star gazing, or garage sales. There is literally something going on all the time and the only way you find out is to go to the post office and look at the bulletin board!
●Quake lake is often missed but should be a must see.
● GET OUT OF YOUR CAR! Take a small hike, sit by a steam, breathe the mountain air. EXPERIENCE the area.
●Be patient. The area is being serviced by a handful of people with thousands of visitors. It takes time.
●Welcome to The greater Yellowstone area. We are glad you are here!
