Saturday, September 19th, 2026 — ACMA’s annual Sailplane Fly-in.

The day was clear and beautiful, but warm. Well ok, some called it hot! We had a moderate turnout, which is usually the case for this event. A sailplane is just not the type of plane every RC pilot has in their fleet.

It was good to see Tim Tyler and his wife again. They are from Duckhill, Mississippi. — Mark Owens came to us from Crestview, Florida. It was his first time to our field. Mark brought a couple very nice, large gliders. — Brad Gamble is from Missouri. He was in town and decided to visit us with his daughter and grandaughter. That's them in the picture with Jimmy Kennamer.

Rob Baker used his Turbo Timber tow plane to take gliders up a couple of times. — Richard Bosco flew his Aerodactyl turbine powered plane. It is launched form a small cart. — Tony Brown flew a sleek red and black sailplane. It was also turbine powered.

Larry Henriksen won the raffle plane, an E-flite Beechcraft Expeditor 1.5m.

Club Chef Ed Daniels cooked for us, which is always a good thing! The food was great! — Thanks also go out to Field Marshal Steve Kent for making the field look great; Rod Gilbert, the event’s coordinator; and Elliot Braun and Steve for manning the registration/raffle desk.

ACMA's annual Veterans Memorial Warbird Fly-in is coming up in November! Our most popular fly-in. Check the flyer for details.

Sunday, August 9, 2026 — Great weather for a change! Several club members took advantage of the nice weather and came out to enjoy the day. Here are some of the pictures and videos I took.

On September 11th & 12th, the Central Alabama Sport Flyers present the Warbirds Over Alabama fly-in. For scale warbirds only.

Our club’s annual Sailplane Fly-in is one month from now, on September 12th. If you are into gliders, come fly with us or just visit and watch and have lunch with us.

Here are some photos and videos that I had put off for a while, because, you know, I have a real life too… But here they are, at last. I think I will just let them speak for themselves, so no commentary this time.

I have another batch coming - pics and videos from last Sunday. I will spend a little more time messing with the videos and then post them, probably in the next few days. And if not, it will be later…

Saturday, July 11, 2026 — Part 1 of 2 — Azalea City Model Aeronautics annual Summer Fly-in. There are many pictures and videos that I took, so I had to split this into two parts.

The event was well-attended, although I had the feeling we could have had more if the weather had not been so hot!

There were six pilots from out of town: Tiago Cabral, Ray Hicks, Terry Green from Crestview, Florida; Sinh Nguyen from Chattanooga, Tennessee; Kenny Chandler from Gulfport, Mississippi; and Mike Sauls from Wiggins, Mississippi. We really appreciate y’all’s participation!

Thanks to the club members who helped put on this event: Larry Henriksen, Elliot Braun and Allen Pippin who manned the registration/raffle table; Ed Daniels who cooked some fine food; Steve Kent for making the field look great; and Jerry Festa who donated ice. I took pictures and videos…

This is Part 1 of 2. Don’t forget to check out Part 2 of 2! It has more pics, videos and information about upcoming events.

Saturday, July 11, 2026 — Part 2 of 2 — Azalea City Model Aeronautics annual Summer Fly-in.

We had the HobbyTown gift cards and airplane raffle after a wonderful lunch, cooked by our Club Chef, Ed Daniels. Terry Green from Crestview won the Pitts biplane. Congratulations! — Lucky Kenny won three gift cards and turned them back in to be redrawn. He also won the $50.00 gift card, which he gave to Oliver! Thank you, Kenny!

Sinh Nguyen really likes the Airbus he acquired from Jesse, but during one flight we heard some flutter, causing him to have to land. He came in hot and ran off the north end of the runway. The rudder control horn had broken or had come loose, causing the flutter. He repaired it and flew it again. All went well.

Mike Sauls brought his awesome Viper turbine jet. It's large, and piloted by Magic Mike, who can wave and turn his head. No, I am not talking about Mike, I'm talking about the pilot figurine in the cockpit! The pilot's uniform and the cockpit are very detailed. The jet has smoke too, and it is dense and showed up great.

Combat was probably the best ever! There were no surviving airplanes. In the last round only Andrew and Oliver were left. Oliver was flying Jimmy’s Conscendo and Andrew an Me-109. They had a pretty hard midair! Rob determined that Oliver was the overall winner. Again, I should add… He won a $25.00 HobbyTown gift card. Oliver has won the last three combat events in a row, if I recall.

Tiago Cabral flew his bright orange F-16 turbine jet. It’s fast! — Richard Bosco took pictures with his long-lensed camera and flew his helicopter and 3D plane. — Kenny flew his Extra-330. — Jesse flew his blue and yellow classic Thundercoupe. I think he likes it.

Here’s a reminder that Huckin’ The Bowl is coming up on August 6-8. Hosted by the Mississippi Coast RC Club in Gulfport, Mississippi. Kenny is the President there. Let’s support them by participating in their fly-in. It’s usually a big one!

On August 22nd ACMA will have our new event, the Auction & Fly-in, on August 22nd. The Auction portion is from 9:00 to 1:00 to collect donated items for the benefit of our club, with an eye toward facility improvements. So if you have “stuff” lying around your hobby room, shed, garage or attic, bring them on! Just remember if your items don’t sell you must take them back home with you!

The fly-in part, after the auction is over, is a bit different from the usual. It is very low-key, there is no registration fee, no food will be available, and there will be no gift card raffle and no airplane raffle. Soft drinks, water, and snacks will be available. No flying while the auction is going on!

There are a couple events coming up soon:
- ACMA Sailplane Fly-in - September 12. For gliders only. A tow plane will be available for your use. No flyer yet.

- ACMA Veterans Memorial Warbird Fly-in - November 14. This will be a two-day, AMA-sanctioned event. We’ll have awards to be announced later. No flyer yet.

Sunday, July 4th/5th, 2026 — There was some flying activity at our field this past Independence Day weekend.

Some highlights:
Dave Litten flew a patriotic Carbon Z Cub with red, white and blue smoke! —
Nick Bally flew his yellow aerobatic Breitling. — Richard Bosco made a second flight on his new F-16 turbine jet. All went well.

Jesse, Sam, Oliver, Rob, Mike, Kerry and Conner flew too, but as I can’t be everywhere all the time, I didn’t get to take pictures or videos of them. I’ll get them another time.

This weekend, on July 11th, we host our Summer Fly-in, also a popular annual event. Come and participate or just visit, watch and have lunch with us. We plan on having Combat at Noon too!

And then there’s Huckin’ The Bowl on August 6-8. Hosted by Mississippi Coast RC Club, Gulfport, Mississippi.

Also in August we will have our new event, the Auction & Fly-in on August 22nd. I’ll have a better flyer with details later…
