Had the opportunity to visit Kenai, Alaska with some family. We did a guided trip on the ocean out of Homer. Limited out on Halibut, Rock Fish, and COD. I was asked to drive the boat for about half an hour. Couldn’t turn that down!

We were a bit early for the great Red Salmon run but I was able to pull one in.

Visited The Salty Dog on the Homer Spit. This bar is known to the captains from The Deadliest Catch.

We saw plenty of wild life including moose, eagles, sea ducks, otters, an orca, and giant mosquitos. We even witnessed a otter eating a giant octopus.

Now it’s time to start focusing on hunting and ice season here in Minnesota

It was a very successful first ice season! I want to thank my partners Lars and Ryan. Their work and dedication was second to none!

This was our inaugural season renting houses and catering to clients. We didn’t have one complaint. Everyone caught fish and all made new memories on Rainy Lake!

We learned a lot from year one and plan on only making it better for year two!

The ice in southern Minnesota is sketchy at best and only going to get worse.

The good news is northern Minnesota ice is strong and will be sustainable through this warm spell!

The ice road to our houses are measuring a consistent 18” off ice. The ice is checked daily!

If you still don’t feel comfortable driving in the ice we will still shuttle anyone out to the houses!

The burbot (Lota lota), also known as bubbot, mariah, loche, cusk, freshwater cod, freshwater ling, freshwater cusk, the lawyer, coney-fish, lingcod, or eelpout.

Frequently called Poor Man’s Lobster. This fish may look ugly and slimy but if prepared correctly it is one of the finest tasting fish you’ll catch!

Personally I fillet them, cut into cubes, boil in 7up, melt some butter… dip in the butter and enjoy your Lobster!
