I've spent the last few posts talking about corporate retreats—large groups of people traveling together for a shared experience.

Because when you're planning a destination wedding, you're not just planning a wedding.

You're helping 20, 50, 100 or more people get to the same destination, stay at the right property, coordinate their travel, experience the destination, and celebrate one very important moment together.

One of the first questions I hear when a company starts planning a retreat is:

“Where should we go?”

And while I could easily send over a list of beautiful destinations, that's not how I approach corporate travel.

Because a beautiful destination isn't necessarily the right destination.

Before I recommend a location, I want to understand the WHY behind the trip.

What is the company trying to accomplish?

Is this retreat about:

🤝 Building stronger relationships between team members?

🎯 Improving communication and collaboration?

🏆 Rewarding employees for an incredible year?

💡 Bringing leadership together to strategize?

🧘‍♀️ Giving employees an opportunity to disconnect and recharge?

🎉 Celebrating a major company milestone?

Once I understand the purpose, THEN I start looking at the destination.

I consider things like:

📍 Accessibility — How easy is it for everyone to get there?

🏨 Accommodations — Can the property comfortably handle the group and provide the right meeting and event spaces?

🎯 Activities — Are there experiences that support the goals of the retreat?

🍽️ Dining — Can the destination accommodate large group meals and private events?

🚌 Transportation — How easily can 50, 100 or 180 people move around?

💰 Budget — Can we create the desired experience without wasting money in the wrong places?

🌟 The WOW factor — Will employees actually be excited when they find out where they're going?

That's part of what I love about group travel planning.

The destination becomes part of the strategy.

And that's the point.

I'm not looking for the destination that's simply popular.

I'm looking for the destination that makes sense for YOUR PEOPLE and YOUR PURPOSE.

Because there is a big difference between:

This time next year, when many people will be just recovering from the back-to-school rush, my clients will be setting sail on the beautiful Amadeus Mira cruising through the rich landscapes and cultural locales of Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania.

They will enjoy a guided sightseeing tour in Vienna and Budapest, and visit the fortress Golubac. Sights like the Serbian capital of Belgrade, one of the oldest cities in Europe and dramatic views of Iron Gates Gorge - a natural border between Serbia and Romania, are on the list.

I like that they'll be trading a quiet house for new adventures with some of their closest friends.

Over these past five years, I’ve had the privilege of learning destinations from all over the globe, discovering incredible hotels and experiences, building relationships with amazing travel partners, and most importantly, serving clients who have trusted me with some of their most meaningful journeys.

Travel has taught me that this business is about so much more than booking flights and hotels. It’s about listening to what people want, understanding what matters to them, anticipating the details, creating experiences that feel personal, and being there from the first conversation until they return home.
