Two veteran promoters team up to take helm at Independence Motor Speedway

Independence, Iowa (January 15, 2023) – Over the past decade, both Mike Van Genderen and Dana Benning have developed a friendship that formed as both managed and promoted events under their own individual management. Van Genderen, who owns and promotes Stuart International Speedway, promotes Scotland County Speedway and Bloomfield Speedway and has become one of the most respected track preparers in the nation with a resume that is highlighted by track work for the prestigious Bristol Motor Speedway NASCAR dirt events as well as creating great racing surfaces at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas plus numerous work at dirt tracks in between. Benning has completed a couple successful stints promoting Independence Motor Speedway with his last duties as promoter of the popular facility in 2018.
A weekly discussion between the two in mid-December brought up Independence Motor Speedway (IMS) and the absence of a promoter for the 2023 season. That discussion led to Benning reaching out to the Buchanan County Fair Association and as of January 13, an agreement in terms for the duo to take on promotional duties at the historic facility. “My heart will always be at Indee” said Benning who had previously stepped away from promoting to concentrate on his primary job working in the finance industry. “Mike and I couldn’t imagine a season without racing scheduled at Indee” added Benning. “With such a history there, we plan to work at elevating the program to its full potential.”
“We are definitely behind in the planning stages, but we will get information released as soon as we can get connected with IMCA as well as finalize the contract with the formation of our new entity” stated Van Genderen. The duo has plans to begin racing in April with the expectation of bringing some mid-week specials throughout the season in order to bring additional exposure to the facility with travelers and streaming events. Benning added “A firm schedule will be in place no later than February 1 which will still allow time for participants and fans to plan accordingly”. A new web site, Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as networking through other channels will be released as well as they become available. “We needed to get the word out that there will be racing in Independence” stated Benning. “We realize that much work needs to take place and we are behind schedule for what needs to be done, but we needed to let everyone know now that Indee is back”.
