With the assistance of a slick new jig we constructed , the process of removing the old transom from the 30' Islander Sedan became a very simple manuver that massively reduced the heavy lifting. Once removed , the fairness of all her new beautiful white oak frames can really be seen and appreciated

The topside of this 31' Tiara swim platform also needed repair work.

We addressed :

-Fractures on both aft corners from past dock damage,

-2 Fractured transom mount pads

-Some miscellaneous gel coat repairs

After the fiberglass repairs, we applied fresh gelcoat.

It turned out very nice .

Along with the new composit core this platform is ready for years of more use

This swim platform from a 31' Tiara had a rotten balsa core .

The nasty old coreing was all removed.

A new composit core was then fused to the original top skin. Then layers of fresh fiberglass were laid over it to form a new bottom skin and was just finished off with glossy white gel coat.

Next , before we can call it done this platform will also get some glasswork to repair some dock damage.

When your surveyor mentions elevated or high moisture readings and also a dull thud sound during percussion testing, this is very likely what the coreing in question may look like in between the fiberglass skin .

Water logged and rotten balsa core is a pretty common finding especially on production boats from the mid 2000's and older.

Its not necessary a deal breaker when buying a used boat so long as theres some reduction in the purchase price
To offset its replacement.

Stay tuned as this platform gets rebuilt.

The 28' Sportsman build getting fit with more structural sapele planking .

Because the existing bottom planking was so severely unfair and asymmetrical port to stbd. , on this hull, we've had to work from scratch to create flowing uniform plank lines without using any old planks as patterns to within a tolerance of a 1/16" side to side.

We picked up a new to us Powermatic band saw in the fall.

Before it went into service in our shop we took it apart , cleaned it up, striped it to bare metal, gave it a fresh new paint job, new pin stripes , new tires, and all new bushings & bearings
Part of producing high quality work also involves maintaining and updating our equipment so it performs as it should .
