The California State Senate passed AB 1813 (Ward), the Community Renewable Energy Program Act. Thank you to the Senators who showed their commitment to advancing a more equitable community solar and storage program for all Californians!

Governor Newsom - Californians want a workable, scalable, and clean community energy program placed on local sites, like campuses and resilience hubs. With 83% of California voters saying reducing electricity bills should be a priority, and 80% wanting local energy resources like solar and battery to compete with utilities to drive costs down, passing this bill is a no-brainer!

Matheny Tract is a community surrounded by industrial pollution exacerbated by the City’s choices to site projects that only worsen the impacts residents face. Hugo Trujillo shares his gratitude for help from the state, but at the same time, remains disheartened by rolled back protections and unimplemented solutions.

Hugo is asking legislators and the governor to support to help restore protections for vulnerable communities like Matheny Tract throughout the state. We urge the Assembly Committee on Appropriations to stand with Hugo and vote .

Pixley, a small town in Tulare County, is surrounded by industrial agriculture and energy projects with impacts that far outweigh any benefits to the community. Maria, her friends, and her family travel each year, sometimes two or three times a year, to Sacramento to communicate how the loss of protections though would further devastate the community.

Environmental review for polluting projects sited near vulnerable communities is essential to their survival. bill would help restore stronger protections from toxic pollution near homes and schools, safeguard clean water, and protect us all from the long-term costs of pollution and environmental damage.
