This was a cool one for us, Sean earned his PPL with DCFS as a student at Jasper High School and is currently in the professional pilot program at Purdue University.

Congratulations to Ben Schwenk on earning your Gold Seal Flight Instructor designation from the Federal Aviation Administration.

After learning to fly at DCFS, Ben became a Flight Instructor and has been training students for over 3 years. In that time, he has helped 13 students achieve new pilot certificates, helped keep current pilots proficient, exposed individuals to the joy of aviation, and given over 1,000 hours of instruction!

To qualify for this distinction, Ben had to meet the following FAA requirements:

1. Hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating or an ATP certificate.
2. Hold a ground instructor certificate with an advanced or instrument ground instructor rating.
3. Have trained and recommended at least 10 applicants for a practical test, with a minimum 80% pass rate within 24 calendar months.

Ben is also a full-time pilot for Dubois Co. Flight Services, and lifelong aviation enthusiast. In his words:

“The best part about my job is the ability to share my passion with anyone who asks – every pilot loves to talk about being a pilot – and sharing that with others is an awesome experience! Most of all I want to thank my past and current students, coworkers, teachers, mentors, and family for their support. Without you all, this would not have been possible. Thank you!!”
